Hide outs

Do you make hide outs for hedgehogs in your garden so they have a safe place to hidbrate over the winter? I have collected lots of twigs etc and piled behind some wooden planters so hedgehogs or other small animals can hide away from the cold.

We don't have hedgehogs here. The closest thing we would have to that would be a porcupine. They live in the woods however and their quills can be dangerous. Not the friendliest critters, thankfully!

Do porcupines sleep all winter?

Good to hear from you as well. It has been so cold here in England, I hope all our hedgehogs are deep in there houses to keep warm

Hi Anne18 It has been too cold and wet outside for us to go out there and do that sort of thing but I have got lots of bushes in my garden so I am sure they would be nice and cosy in on of them!

I'm sure the hedgehogs love your garden, sounds a very safe place for them to be in

I don't have hedgies, I think they are cute. Heck, with the dogs in the yard, we don't have 'possoms anymore either.

We don't get many birds in our garden due to the cat, shame as I really liked feeding the birds and seeing them in the garden, so have your problem but slighty different

The hedgehog looks so cute.. hehe ^_^ Is it your pet?? But why must it be kept in the garden and not inside the house?? That's interesting, as i have not come across anybody with a hedgehog.. hehe I do know a few animals that hadbrate over winter, but not hedgehog.. haha =D I guess alot of twigs, together with some dry leaves and soil, should be enough for it.. hehe

Hedgehogs aren't pets, they live in the garden and they can have fleas, they are wild animals that we need to care for

Yeah..you're doing good. Animals too have the right to live and we must find ways to help them survive. Keep it up. I am with you

Yes we have a log pile up the end of the garden by the composter and we do have hedgehogs in the garden,we are not sure what is up their as we don't like to disturb what evers there.

I have another log pile up this year, at the bottom of the garden where not many people go.
