I see this was actually announced a few weeks ago but I just heard of it on the Daily Show; Alan Colmes, the liberal half of Fox News' "Hannity and Colmes" will leave the show at the end of the year. http://www.cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=39930 Colmes said he's "looking forward to having dinner with my wife a couple of times a week,." and he also stated in an interview, "We have a Democratic House, Senate and president. My work is done." Colmes will continue as a contributor to Fox News and will also do his daily radio show. It's unknown who, if anyone, will replace him as Hannity's liberal sidekick. If you're a Fox News viewer (or even if you only tune in occasionally) will you miss Alan Colmes? Do you think he should be replaced or do you think the arrogant Hannity can carry the show on his own? (Sorry, I had to add my own two cents here! Feel free to disagree with me.) Annie

Damn, I actualy like the guy, and I'm a traditional conservative constructionist. I honestly can't stand Hanity, think the man is a sensationalist asss. Colmes is a little misguided in his idology, but he as least honest, straight forward and smart. At least I still have his radio show.

When and what station(s) is his radio show on? I found it by accident in my car once but I don't think I was close to home and I forget what time it was. I agree, he's smart and he's actually polite and respectful. I think Hannity does a disservice to whatever positions he advocates! Annie

Hannity is arrogant. Colmes is a mismatch in my opinion and I'm always less inclined to listen to him. His arguments are often weak and I think Hannity needs an opposing side with a bit more backbone. Someone who can argue his points.

From what little I've seen of him it's always appeared to me that Alan is kind of like Hannity's "whipping boy". The showed a montage of clips on the Daily Show last night of many times when Alan was put in his place or soundly dissed by Sean or soeone else on the show. Hannity doesn't seem to be someone who "plays well with others"...lol...and I don't just say that because of his politics. Annie

You're probably right, which is why I think Colmes is a bad match for Hannity. Colmes gives Hannity no challenge.

I do hope he goes back to doing the radio show (or has he ever stopped)? I used to listen to it in NC. He was a lot better on radio than he is on TV.

Apparently he's never stopped his radio show. I don't listen to the radio too much except for in the car and since I'm currently without a car and when I DO go anywhere my grandkids are usually with me...well, you get the drift. I get to listen to today's wonderful music - NOT!! (Tell me I'm not getting old!) Annie

What I read about it is that Colmes isn't being replaced on Hannity's show, but Colmes still has a job with the network. I think if he wasn't there somewhere, people who defend Fox' claim of "balance" won't have him to use as an example. Yeah, The Daily Show had a lot of embarrassing clips to show, and in the movie Outfoxed there were similar clips of Colmes deferring to Hannity. Here's a clip where he really stood up for his point, though. http://www.thepresidentialcandidates.us/colmes-brings-up-mccains-infidelity/675/

Thanks for that clip, I think I saw it when it was aired. I can't believe the hypocrisy of these people! I actually recall someone here saying McCain's first wife "knew he had to do it". Say WTF??? I thought "youthful indiscretions" happened when someone is in their late teens or early twenties! Annie

When I heard that I just laughed. I always wondered how Colmes could stand to do a show with Hannity. Every time I have seen Hannity I have wanted to throw up. I can't stand listening or watching conservative talk shows.

I think that they will replace Alan, I just don't know who would want that job. It is impossible to get a word in when Hannity gets going on a topic. I know that Sean thinks that he can do the show himself, his daily radio show is three hours of him, I am sure that he would love to have another hour alone.

Absolutely! One thing you must admit with Franken, whether you like him or not, and that's that he'll make sure to get a word in edgewise even with big-mouth Hannity. Annie

I rarely watch the show unless they are covering something I find interesting. Frankly I can't stand Hannity. Colmes wasn't too bad, but I don't know who they'll find to replace him. Either way the democrats will hate any liberal on that show. Just the act of being on Fox News turns liberals against their own.

I beg to differ on that, Taskr. If most Democrats happened to accidentally tune in to Fox and there was a liberal on there who made sense, why would they hate him or her? Annie

It's too bad he is leaving the show annie, fox is so republican and conservative slanted that we no longer turn that station on. We have another problem with a radio station in St. Louis. For years we turned on the radio and it stayed on KMOX almost all day long. However, they no longer broadcast the Cardinal baseball games and they have turned completely conservative. At 11 a.m. every morning through the week Rush Limbaugh (the jerk that thinks he is smarter than anyone else and knows all) comes on. I won't allow my radio to be contaminated by this SOB, so we know longer listen to KMOX. I'm sure he has turned off a lot of faithful listeners.

I for one wont miss Colmes. I understand he is a nice guy but he was really not up to the challenge of the show. Let's all remember that. It is a TV show. They are playing roles. None of us that I am aware of know Hannity personally so comments to the fact that he is arrogant speak more to his TV persona than to the man. That is a distinction that is too often missed, particularly in politics. Everyone appeared to be shocked that McCain met with Obama supposedly to seek a cabinet seat. Whether that was the motivation or not is besides the point. Why was anyone shocked by this? This is politics. You paint your opponent as the devil to win an election. Both candidates did that. But the election is over and its back to business. No one should be surprised. Sorry if I got a bit off topic but no one really knows if Hannity is arrogant. His TV persona is. Let's just be careful how we view the man. I would LOVE to see a strong liberal on the show. Someone who is articulate and can stand up to the heat without sounding like he is whining. That is how I often viewed Colmes. He seemed to be whining to me. I don't think that Franken is a good choice either. He comes off as a smart a**. I think Stephanopolis would be a good choice. He is articulate, well respected and can stand up to the confrontation. How about Olbermann?

I was surprised Obama and McCain met with each other and from all reports had a good meeting but I don't consider either of them to be anything like Sean Hannity. I know it's his TV persona but for someone to act like that on a news or commentary show they have to be showing a big part of their own personality, in my opinion. Now onthe other hand you say Al Franken comes off as a "smart a$$" but he's been a comedian for years so he's much more likely to be "playing a role" than Hannity. My point is, depending on what you'd like to see from two costars of a commentary show with one from the left and one from the right they may be the perfect match! Obviously each will be called "arrogant a$$holes" from those on the opposite side of the fence but they'll keep things lively and that's what draws an audience for this type of programming, isn't it? You're kidding abut Keith, right? I mean, why would he even consider to leave a network that's been good to him as he's been good for them to be what would obviously amount to a second banana to Sean Hannity? Annie

No I'm not kidding. Keith has stepped on too many toes over there and I understand he is not in as good of graces as he once was. Those news stations trade staff fairly regularly. Forgive my spelling but some of those that made changes were: Kiran Chetry Glenn Beck Greta Van Susteren The reason that I made the comment I made about Franken was that I feel the show needs a tough persona on the liberal side of the table. Franken wouldn't provide that. He comes across a bit irreverent and SNLish, which is fine for what it is but to give the show better balance and not have that person turn into a punching bag, you need someone who comes across strong and informed. Franken's style just wouldn't be strong enough, in my opinion. And I still think it's wrong to equate someone's on screen persona to their real life. I bet that Colmes is a stronger person in real life than he appears on the show. He would have to be to have earned that position and kept it all these years against Hannity.

I was with you until the end of that post, I like Sean Hannity. I do like Alan Colmes too, he does seem like he's the odd man out but kudos to him for staying on a network that has both barrels aimed at the dems. I'm sure he'll still be a voice to the democratic party and even though he won't be sparring with Sean every night he still can go toe to toe with the best of em'.

I was disappointed to hear that Alan Colmes was leaving Hannity and Colmes until I heard that he would still be with Fox. I do think he should be replaced. I like the give and take of different opinions. I think all the networks need to have both sides and let us decide. We have brains, but it sometimes seems as though the media either don't think so, or don't want us to use our brains so they can tell us what to think. I don't want Sean Hannity to carry the show by himself. I'm afraid it would be too one sided. Besides Hannity already has a show of his own, "Hannity's America."

I'm going to miss having Alan Colmes on "Hannity and Colmes". Even though I usually agree with Sean, I sometimes find him to be a bit much. I think they should get a replacement for Alan, maybe Neal Gabler, or Bob Beckel, or Jane Hall or Geraldine Ferraro.

I'm not really the biggest Alan Colmes fan out there. I wrote in my blog that his face looks like something Stephen King hallucinated while doing whip-its at Deluca's. Harsh, yeah, but man he gets under my skin. Hannity is no better, really, but Colmes puts words into everyone's mouths when they disagree with him. That's a pet peeve of mine, no matter who does it. When someone doesn't let you finish what you're saying and interupts you with "So, what you're saying is...," it's time to stop talking because, obviously, they're not interested in your opinion. Sean will interupt guests, too, but it's usually to disagree with them. That, I don't mind as much. Arrogant? Yes, very much so. But Colmes' style is pure naive vanity. He's like Deepak Chopra if Chopra had a set of balls. Hannity is a little too Christian for me, and Colmes is too deadset on defending far-far-left ideology with his life. They're mismatched because they're at complete opposite ends of the spectrum. I don't think neither should be partnered up. Give one a solo show and let the other's air right after. But whoever up there said Colmes is Hannity's whipping boy (I forget the name), I've witnessed plenty of times where Colmes unleashed on Hannity. Sean's voice is louder, and it's difficult to talk over a loudmouth unless you want to yell.

Well, I'll agree with you about Hannity being a loudmouth! I can't say I'm the biggest fan of Alan Colmes either but that's in a big part due to the fact he's on Fox. I guess I COULD say he's my favorite Fox News personality...lol! Sean isn't interested in anyone's opinion other than his own and I don't think he's ever said anything I've heard that I've agreed with. Annie

I don't know off-hand who Chopra is so I can't give an opinion about him but I will say if someone has their own show and has someone on that show as a guest they owe it to them to allow them to speak without cutting them off. I agree with you about how we can simply not watch those shows and channels we don't like and I know how much the right hates MSNBC but I'm pretty sure they have lots more conservatives on the air than Fox has liberals. lol A suggestion that helps things like these: Don't watch channels you don't like. Could work ... ? :P I can't stand liberal-based, far-left news, so I don't watch MSNBC. There might be some poor conservative Ed McMahon co-hosting over there who's being brutalized by some arrogant Johnny Carson. I'll never know. But yes, Hannity's only worried about his opinion. As a bi-nightly watcher of the program, I know all about Hannity's propensity for view-jamming the throats of the unwilling. But unlike Colmes, he lets them finish first. Well, unless it's Chopra. No big deal there. Chopra's a maroon who should be cut off. :)
