We have various stock cubes and powders here, chicken, beef, vegetable, made by Maggi or Continental, and I notice someone mentioned Knorr, who I used extensively as a professional chef. We also have Bonox, but you probably don't get that in England, and I'm not sure Marmite will do the trick. Do you have Oxo cubes? Lash

Looked it up... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bouillon_cube, you could probably use stock, but it says its used in British cooking.... Might find Corn meal/flour in a larger store or online

I would use broth in a can. Just don't use as much water or other liquids.

A Bouillon cube is the same thing as a stock cube in England. Oxo should be the brand you have over there. Good luck!! (Also, 1 teaspoon of granulated broth base could be used as a substitute for the cubes, if you can't find them.)

One bouillion cube equals 1 cup of broth. Hope that helps.

I know this one Anne. They are Chicken, beef or vegtable stock cubes. I think Knorr make them. We add them to soups and other things. Yes I learnt this online around a year ago when I had the same problem not knowing what they where.

it is cubes of bouillon which is just a broth, for soups starters etc, usually they are beef but I guess they could be other flavors, I would imagine if you can't get them cube, however you get broth flavor would do.

Have you tried Bouvril. I know it is sold in Canada and it is probably also sold in England as well. I think one tsp would be equal to a cube. Also try Magi's if you can get it there.

Yeah, we can get Borvil, Marmite and Vegemite all three of those in England Never heard of Vegemite until about 1982 ish when a group from Oz had a big hit here with a song called "Down Under" and a line in the song went......." and he gave me a bit of his Vegemite sandwich" Do you come down from the land of down under...... Men at Work sang it and the cassettee case was yellow, still have it upstairs somewhere. So a while we thought they were singing something else, and then I think everyone in England hit the shops to buy Vegemite... very much like our marmite. Well hope you like my memory lane talk??? Must be getting old and I REALLY must get out more!!LOL G'day to you all my fellow possums.....

You can get them in England as they are popular with vegetarians I've seen them, try your local health food shop or Holland and Barrett they probably stock them.

One cube is equal to a cup of stock so if they do not have the beef cubes or the oxo cubes do they have any beef stock as a cup of that will work. If you do add a cup of liquid stock remember to deduct one cup off the water or it will be too wet. Do you have stock powder there. The equivalent of a cup of beef stock is all you need.

hi Anne ,they are either, beef, chicken or vegetable made into a cube form or nowadays they are also sold in powdered form to add flavour to soups ,stews etc. We have these availabe in Australia and know them as Maggi stock cubes or Maggi stock powder. If they are not available to you ,you could use liquid stock chicken, beef or vegetable as once you have added powder or stockcube to water it becomes liquid form. Hope this helps. cheers.

That would be called "Stock cubes" and just insert whatever flavour you're looking for. Thanks again to wikipedia!
