I love to read. My dad started teaching me to read and write when I was three and I had moved out of first readers into chapter books when I was about six or seven. I was always in the accelerated reading groups in school, reading four or five grade levels above my actual grade. Up until I was about 14, I would spend half of my summer vacations at the library because I could devour a whole young adult novel in a day. I wish I had that kind of time now. Now, it seems like whenever I have a little spare time I spend it doing other things because it's hard to read at home. Too many distractions - TV, internet, snacks, kitties - so I spend an hour or two each week at Starbucks, just to get some reading done. Right now I'm working on the Harry Potter series. When I finish with them, I am debating between the Chronicles of Narnia (to make a long story short, I read the first four, lost my collection, got a new set and now need to finish them) or Jim Butcher's Codex Alera.

I haven't. I never had much interest in them but I loved the movie and since that's more often than not where I get inspired to read, I might give them a try. Right now I'm up to my eyeballs in books I want to read

Reading is a great thing, I do it all of the time, just as long as you do not take what you read literally. Right now, I am reading H.P. Lovecraft. I just got finished reading about the two sons that were spawned from the Necronomicon. Man, I love Lovecraft.

I agree with you and reading is a really good habit. It seems that today people spend less time on it because of TV, computer, video games etc. I think we have to be the good example and spend more time reading. Then our children may learn from us. I love China

Reading has always been an important part of my life. I remember the first time I read a whole book in one night. I was eight years old and I had borrowed a mary kate and ashley olsen book from a cousin. My parents, noting how involved I was with reading this fabulous piece of literature, let me stay up as late as I wanted reading this book. I finished it by two in the morning. Since then I have not stopped reading. I am in my second year of college and in my first year I found that, much to my dissapointment, I couldn't find the time to read. In dorm living, when you're bored you go see your friends who are living a few doors away rather than turn to reading. This year I promised myself I would read somehow. I started by reading before bed which worked wonderfully. Now that the spark has been reignited I am back to my old self, indulging in books. I love all books. I love the classics but I do love finding great contemporary books. I am currently reading Jonathon Strange and Mr. Norrell, a book that has a serious demeanor about its topic (magic), and am finding it to be truly pleasurable to read. Who knows what I'll think when I'm done but I am enjoying the process of reading it which is all I can ask for.

Hi dio Reading is one of my hobbies.I used to read novels and magazines when I was young. Now I read only news papers. When I travel in train or plane for longer duration,I read some current magazines. When I am at home I read more on internet.Generally my topics will be health related topics. I don't find any difference in reading between the soft copy and the hard copy. In fact I enjoy reading in internet where I can read so many authour's articles and take important notes in notepad. This reading habit has encouraged me to blog. Also it helped me to publish articles in ezine articles.com. So don't repent for not reading on paper.Nothing wrong if you read in internet. Happy mylotting

Hello, dio123! I do not think that the good habit is reading books. I believe that the habit that we all should have is reading. Doesn't matter what, as long as you are reading. This is what is important. And I have to say that many young people are not reading anything. Yes, perhaps they read something in a game, but that is not the necessary amount. People should read a lot, and a lot more. I read everyday. Not only read, but I also write. Both in my native language and in English. That's what counts, after all. Respectfully, Munhozmib.

Yes, you're right, reading is a good habit and it will enrich your knowledge. However I always can not find a good book when I have the mood to read, and can not make myself quiet to read a good book either. That's boring. May I will be able to read a good book in this winter holiday.

Frankly speaking, the invention of internet realy changed our life. And it is true that the internet is the first choice for many young people read news and get information. I also find a new thing that many of people, including me, like buy books via internet. It is a good thing for us. Not only save time, but also reduce the time cost.So the important thing is we are reading and still like this habit. And different period we have different imterest on books. For me, I will have twins, so the books on child rearing would arouse my interest.
