Thinking of getting a new vehicle

Two years ago my dad said Saundy you need to start thinking about getting a new car - this one has a lot of miles on it and it might start having issues. Well...that was in 2006. I thought about it definitely when i started having trouble that winter with SNOW...it was deep and my little neon kept getting stuck. I got new tires which helped some but it didn't help when the snow was over the bumper of my car and i couldn't move anyways. The same thing happened last year and i even looked at a few vehicles then but decided i couldn't afford it. This year I'm back to thinking it but I'm looking at a crossover..a Ford Edge this time. I've decided even if it gets slightly worse gas mileage I wont lose as many hours of time getting stuck or even having to miss work because i have a wuss for a car. I'll be test driving it this afternoon. What sort of cars/trucks/suvs/crossovers would you suggest.
