Warm & Happy OR Cold & Humbug

Throughout the last couple of days, I have experienced encounters with many people. I find that for the most part many are joyful and happy sharing warm wishes for the Holiday Season. Last night, I encountered a couple of young men who appeared to be delivering a t.v. to my neighbor.
They said hi and I said Hello and wished them a Merry Christmas.
Suddenly the spring in their walk ceased and their heads hung low as they mumbled back, yeah, Merry Christmas.
In comparison to the warm well wishes even strangers are passing along, this encounter has stuck with me as I wonder what compels a person to be warm & happy or cold & humbug.
I imagine there could be a number of contributing factors for both.
My glass is half full, I make the best of what is presented, regardless.
I do enjoy Christmas time and like to share well wishes to friends, family and those I encounter.
When sharing our Christmas spirit with enthusiasm it id intended to feel good.
I defiantly notice a difference when encountering others, engaging in small talk and concluding with wishing them a Happy Christmas but the well wish reciprocated seems without interest, forced and not at all genuine.
I hope that they felt the genuine well wish I pass along their way.
I am still wondering why such heavy heads. Maybe they were on the schedule to deliver t.v.'s through out Christmas.
I know when I had to work right through Christmas time, rendering inability to spend time with family and friends, I had a heavy head also.
Are you feeling Warmth & Happiness this Christmas Season or Cold & Humbug and why?
Merry Christmas to All!

I am not feeling cold or humbug, I am feeling sad and depressed. Everyone handles their situations differently I know. I am not alone, but I lost my job, can not find one, bills are piling up, collectors keep calling me, I have no money, so it makes one feel rather sad this time of year. I understand the happiness of those who are able to get out there and shop etc, etc. and I am happy for them that they are able to do so. I guess it is feeling sorry for myself, because I wish that I could be a part of the hustle and bustle. These are my personal feelings, how I feel.
Hope you have a happy holiday

I feel for you in this present situation.
I too am unable to shop, be a part of the hustle and bustle but for other reasons. Som of which is financial but the weather has been so snowy and icy. Extreme weather warnings has kept me away from the business of driving downtown and around.
I did some shopping before the snow came and a good thing. Now I am unable to delver the few gifts I did manage to get.
I believe that you have a justified reason to feel sad and depressed.
It is hard when the money isn't there to buy gifts for everyone, then attend Family gatherings and unable to be contributing gifts to other family members. Been there, done that and is awkward and you do feel down.
Sometimes easier to just avoid going all together, if your family has a Christmas dinner function for all. Although, that year, I was unable to not attend.
It turned out ok anyway. To my surprise there wasn't much gift giving, just lots of food, games and socializing so it was nice.
I look forward to things getting better for you in the turn around.
Hang in there. Thank you very much for your response. Best to you and thank you for your well wishes for the Holiday Season.

Hello EvrWonder, I'm not having a merry holiday this year but that doesn't mean no one else should just because I'm not. I still try to upbeat when around others in hopes to keep their spirit high. Mine is down because it's been a really really rough year for me and my family. I still hope others have a great Christmas regardless how mine is. I mean that sincerely.

Bless your heart. Thank you for your response. I wish you a Christmas of Love for you and yours and a New year 2009 made of fond memories that you may reflect on next Christmas with a smile. Thank you for the well wishes. I am unable to travel home due to the extreme weather conditions but I hope I can get there for New Years. I do have other family members here, that I look forward to spending Christmas day with.
