information age and consumer spending

is the information age also causing decline in sales of more products and services .... causing a decrease in consumer spending? Any thoughts would be appreciated ... cheers.

I'll just cite some points on why people spend less these days in relation to information age. Ebooks are readily available here on the net thereby reducing sales in bookstores. Movies can be downloaded even just few minutes after the wordlwide release of the films in theatres. Same goes for music too! Pay Per View bouts can be streamed live on the internet. People make less use of long distance phone calls because there are instant messengers out there with voice calls which is way more convenient with cams. Yeah, who would buy newspapers when you can read the news first hand online? As long as you have a computer with internet, it will remain sales' rival aside from piracy.
