Okay with all this snow, wehich I love ny the waqy, comes the task of clearing it for myself and the city/county crews as well. I do not mind this physical work as it is also a stress relief. Well, most times it is. This photo shows the reults of what happens when the plows clear the roads in my area. They create a large mountain of white/brown gunk at the curbs edges. Now they also have a tendancy to plow it and piles end up on the edge of the driveway. If not cleared really soon after that it freezes into hard clumps which makes for some very back breaking work. So far this year the city has treated us fairly well. Only once did they actually plow the wno to the house side wqhich causes the heavy work. They've been plowing it towards the street which means the huge snowblowers and dumptrucks will be around soon to clear this mess I believe. Do you hate snowplows when they plow it towards your driveways end? HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Hi Grandpa Bob, I know what mess you are talking about...They do it to our driveway too! We try to keep ahead of it before it freezes ore gets to be too much to shovel, without killing our backs... I am getting these posts from my spam mail....and I am way behind now....Was wondering where everyone was...

Our snow plows sweep through and push everything to the curb, which means yes, the end of our driveway gets a little mountain of icy gunk. Luckily I have an 11 year old who's chore is to shovel. He doesn't exactly do it properly, but it saves me from having to do it. With hubby working so much, he's not capable of doing it, so it's up to the kid.

Hi Grandpa Bob: UGH! that is a huge mountain of GUNK for sure in that pic; I've had my driveway blocked many times over the years with piles of that crap and most of them don't care either that they are blocking you; Even when I lived out in the country they'd come down the whole stinking road and just leave mountains of it there and yes it does freeze into ice like chunks of a night and can tear up stuff under your cars, and trucks very dangerous; Thankfully when I lived out in the country I had neighbors with Tractors and they'd come down and shovel out my driveway with their tractor thank God! There is no way I could ever shovel out a drive way not with my neck and back injuries; I'd shovel out the snow that would drift up behind my car and that alone would just make my back scream in pain but Thank Goodness I had neighbors with Tractors and if one couldn't do it, someone else would; Now that I am back in town its up to me again when my driveway/car gets blocked with chunks of snow/ice...I HATE IT!!! You be careful now if /when you are out in these frigid temps we've been having messing with that crap ok??

Yeah this has got to be nearly 3 or 4 feet of snow piled in one area. I hate the fact we can be ticketed for shoveling the snow from our drive into the street yet the cities and couinties etc can shovel it onto our "private" property? Hmmmm? Maybe I'll print a fake ticket and send it to the city? It's easy to clear away if I gte to it really soon after it's shoved there. It sits too long and it gets frozeb solid then I have to use my monster ice pick to break it up first then shovel it aside. I always dress warm for this snow removal. Got to in this artic air as of late. HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I live in the suburbs in a neighborhood. I have not had any problems with the plough crews pushing it towards our driveway. They normally do a very nice job at clearing the streets. It can also be more difficult if there are cars on the street because they have to try to weave in and out of them. We try to get the vehicles off the street, so there is nothing in the way for the ploughs. I hope they do a better job the next time, so your driveway will not be blocked.

My street is a one way street with just one lane so no parking is doen for the most part. In the summer sometimes visitors will park on the street. It's not allowed it is just not a lot of room. The city does our street and the county does the main raod just a foot from my street. I live on a road that's like an extension of the main road. My street is just 2 blocks long is all. It is a problem getting the roads clear for the snow ploughs. They come over the radio and say 'Today, all cars MUST park on the left' then another day, 'All cars MUST park on the right' and the wife would dutifully go and move the car. Then one day we had a power cut and the radio wouldn't work so the wife got really worried and upset not knowing which side of the road to move the car. I said to her 'Not to worry, my dear, today you can take a chance and leave the car in the garage'!! haha Happy shovelling Grandpa Bob!

Oh yes, especially since we don't have a snow blower we have to move it with a shovel which can be very tiring if the pile is really large..

I used to live on Lowry in Minneapois and they had no where to put the snow. YOur out you shovel your sidewalk like you have to had Bang. there they put it back on sidewalk. I got so mad I made them come out and clean it off. Now I live where when they plow it soesn't end up on my sidewalk. But when they blow alley in my drive it goes. My son is good at keeping it clean.
