Do your kids take turns opening Christmas gifts, or do they just all go at them at once? We like to take our time opening our gifts, and watching each child's reaction to their gift, so we take turns. We go from youngest to oldest. The kids have to practice a lot of patience, especially when there's 7 people opening gifts, including me and hubby. But my kids did fairly well with this. Since the baby is really too young yet, we didn't bother making him wait, we handed him his next gift right away so he could play with the package while we moved on to the next kid, then when it was his turn again hubby would open the gift so we all could see what he got. So how do you and your kids go about opening gifts? Here's a picture of my daughter with her favorite gift, the Easy Bake Oven!

They way my family usually does it is taking turns. Youngest to oldest, but one gift at a time. That way no one has to wait for someone to open all their gifts before the others get to open any.

Yes, that's what we do too, 1 gift at a time. The only problem with that is usually there's one person who ends up having a couple more gifts than anyone else, so they're still opening a few after everyone else is done. This year it was me and my 6 year old son still opening gifts after everyone else was done. The baby had the fewest gifts, followed by the toddler, then hubby, then my oldest, finally my daughter. I actually had the most, but 4 or 5 of them were really the same thing... hubby bought some lotion, shower gel, and body spray from bath and body works, and they had a great sale, so he bought 5 total, and wrapped them individually.

I kept all of our gifts in another room, and brought through one for everyone each time. Then we all opened them together. I allowed time inbetween each batch for the kids to look at what they'd received and for me to record on a list what had been received from whom. I hate it when kids get so overexcited by the whole presents things that they start ripping into them with no regard to the contents and just sort of lose sight of all the wonderful things they are receiving.

We always try to take turns. It makes the unwrapping last longer.

We do the same. One gift at a time to see the reaction. I love it. The kids can get kind of impatient, but they deal with it and get excited when they each open a gift. It does teach patience and it has helped over the years. We had a good Christmas the kids got almost everything that they want.

When I was a kid we used to do something similar in our house, and I used to do it when it was just me and my eldest son, it just made the day last longer somehow! Now that there are six of us in the house and usually millions of pressies it is just easier to put them into respective seperate piles and let the kids get on with it! We just make sure we put the rubbish in the bin straightaway or else it is like a bomb has hit it after!
