I have always enjoyed food like chili, soup, stew and etc., the second day around. It is has been given time for the flavors to merge and for it all to cook down and be more flavorful. What about this? Do others feel the same way? You like dishes better the second time around?

I do second time around all the time -
First I do it by making a pot of something and then just eat it till it is gone - chili, sloppy joe meat, things like that. That way I don't have to "cook" every single day and make the mess. I have had my day of cooking big meals every day, and am enjoying not haveing to do the clean up! I like the cooking part, but that clean up I always hated. So now, I am in the second time of life where I can choose not to do the cleaning! I will make a dozen or so burittos, breakfast sandwiches and baby cheese burgers and freeze them and then nuke them for minute or less and a great meal awaits!
Second, I love pizza the next day. These days the pizzas they have are just not that good. Don't know what happened to the pizza places, but just can't find a good one anymore. Even frozen ones are better than resturant ones! But even the bad ones, I'd much rather buy them today and just put the box in the fridge and eat it tomorrow. It is better for some reason. I think part of it is I re-heat in a toaster oven which crisps up the soggy crust adn that really helps a pizza taste better. I would love to learn how to make deep dish CHicago/NewYork style pizzas, but the problem is getting a really good tasting dough - haven't been able to find that either for making my own pizza!

yes I love the leftovers all of them they are just delicious, and the flavors had a chance to marinate making them even better.

i don't say i like them better but food does not get thrown away at my house. it's too expensive. sometimes i will freeze part of it for later if i get really tired of it. thanksgiving i made soup out of all the leftovers & shared with some friends. my neighbors like my cooking which i'm glad. it's hard to just cook for one & not have leftovers. happy new year!

Hi celticeagle! Yes, you are right! There are some foods that
definitely taste better leftover or as you said the second
day! And as you mentioned, chili, stew and my favorite which
I made yesterday for Christmas dinner, lasagna! Some foods
just do taste better the second day! Like yesterday the
lasagna tasted good, but it had just come out of the oven and
didn't have time to "settle" so it was falling apart when we
cut into it. Now today it will be more formed and easier to
cut. I put alot of meat and sauce in mine because that's how
I like to make it so it is kind of messy on the first day,
although it tastes great! And I also find that stew gets a
better flavor when it gets re-heated the second day! And
the same thing with chili and alot of other dishes. Sometimes
when the ingredients have more time to meld together they do
have a better flavor. At least that's my opinion!
