Should we be hard on them?

That's pretty much a rhetorical question but I would like to hear your opinion. We see new users every day and they tend to make same mistakes and ask same questions. I've noticed there are several people who are kinda harsh on the newcomers whenever a rule is broken.
I understand it is frustrating to see same stuff day by day and I wish more people would read the guidelines but hey,we all were new some day, right?
I don't consider myself a moderator and I don't always bother telling people what they are doing wrong but recently I got the hang of that
.
What about you? Would you get aggravated if you had to explain things that are readily available if only one bothers to read them?

When I first started with mylot some kind members put up with me and pointed me in the right direction. I am grateful for their help and usually try to pass the favor on to newer members.
I especially don't think that I have been here long enough to look down my nose at any one. I have been guilty of using sarcasm at times, only to realize that I have put both feet in my mouth. I did it last night but caught myself right after I did it and went back and posted an apology. I hope the person didn't hold it against me.
I have signed up for tons of sites without reading the guidelines. For a lot of them they are just the same thing said over and over. And others only deal with things that are common sense. After you read of few of these you think you know it all. The guidelines for mylot are different though and need to be read but I believe most people skip them for the same reasons I did so it is normal to see posts from newbies that prove they haven't read them. A word to the wise is usually all that's needed and the newbie soon learns the ropes. If they don't they won't be around long to bother anyone.
I know that at times it gets annoying to see the same questions and the same mistakes show up time after time but if we get tired of answering we can just skip them. Also, every time we answer a newbie's question our post count goes up so in effect we are helping ourselves, too.

Hey savak I agreed with everything you said until I got to this bit: Also, every time we answer a newbie's question our post count goes up so in effect we are helping ourselves, too.
Sadly that is not always true. Most of the new users ask about earnings, ratings and stars or start discussions on topics which have been done over and over again. These would all be deleted and we would earn nothing in terms of cents or posts..... but we do risk earning a new friend so it's worth it just the same

To be honest I think that I have been mean to a new comer before but I do honestly try not to be. I don't believe it's right to get mad at someone, especially if they are from another country and English isn't their first language. No, I don't think we should be hard on them, but I do think that they should read the guidelines. I know that no one likes to read the manuals though.

Yeah,I remember on my first day I was so eager to start communicating and debating I must've broken a few rules myself. Then I was gone for a long time and a quick peek at the guidelines sure made life easier!

No, we have to understand that newcomers often don't read the guidelines and sometimes they are too eager to start a discussion that they sometimes end up repeating previous discussions.

It's almost impossible not to repeat a discussion,I feel that most things have been already said but you might still get different answers.

Hey, not so long time ago I was a beginner too! So...? And first 2 questions were from the `repeating ones`, and I still regret this mistake.
But, seriously, have You read ALL THE GUIDELINES from top till the bottom? I only went through it very quickly, always post-poning the reading of 100%.
