When Is a Mango Ripe?

I bought a mango the other day for the first time. It was on sale and I thought why not try it. I'm not sure if it's ripe enough to cut yet. It's half green and half red. Does anyone know if it needs to ripen more or get soft first?

just colour onlt doesnt matter in this case. it should also have that garden fresh smell. check out it whether a small stem it carries too.

I always let mine get a little soft. The outside color doesn't seem to change but I'm certainly no expert on this fruit someone else will know much more than I do.

I think it needs to ripen more. It doesn't have any give to it yet.
