The first day

This is the first day of the rest of our lives. I was just sitting here, wondering how I could make a difference in my life. Lately, I've been very lazy, not getting enough exercise. I am not one to make New Year's resolutions. They are only made to break. I know people always have good intentions when they make them. What I can do, though, is to try and change my life to make it better. I need to exercise because I have a full hip replacement from 7 1/2 years ago. I can tell by it that I need to get back to exercising as the surgeon told me I needed to do in order for it to work without bothering me. Another thing is that I need to learn I can part with things that I think might be useful and get my house a little more organized. Oh, I have a clean house, just that I keep lots of things I could get rid of. Many years ago, I figured out I could get rid of all the Southern Living books and others I had kept. It didn't kill me to just throw them out. After all, who reads them again? Yesterday, while my husband was gone to my daughter's to work on her car, I decided I could take a good look at my refrigerator. I threw out pickles that nobody will eat. Why let things clutter up your refrigerator? I'm the world's worst at that, believe me! So, today, instead of New Year's resolutions being made to be broken, I am going to try and remember to do things a little differently this year. I want to exercise, throw out things before putting them away if they aren't going to be needed (keeps closets cleaner, too!), talk to friends more on the phone, and just start the New Year with a clean slate! How about you? Are there changes in your life you could make to make things better for you? You don't have to make a New Year's resolution over it, but just try and make things better for yourself.

Hi , I really appreciate your innovative idea of keeping up things clean rather than going for resolutions and break them later. But, I have not got this idea and made an endless list of resolutions which is certainly an uphill task to follow but still thought that I would give a try and find out how far I can do it. There are many flaws in me , for example I waste my time a lot chit chatting , so this year thought that I would rather spend reading something educative and useful. cheers!!!!!!!!!

Reading - thanks for reminding me! I have let down on my reading this year. I have always been an avid reader and also a book reviewer, but I've been a little lax on those this year. I have gotten many books that I have yet to read. I've been after my husband to get me a book cabinet to put all my books in, but haven't gotten it yet. Maybe that's one of the things I need to do myself this year. That way, I could get my books all in order and put the ones I haven't read on a shelf by themselves. It's hard to keep up with them.

I feel the same way. I want to clean up a lot of things at home and get rid of so many things. Too bad, I don't have the energy too do that. Working full time, and attending many therapy sessions I am exhausted by that time. I do however, wish I also spend more time on making my garden beautiful. I have neglect my garden and now weeds are everywhere, it is so ugly.

You can handle doing the things you want to do, just do them slowly. Pick one spot you want to work on and do it when you can. When you finish that, start on another spot/project. You'll soon find you have it all done including your work, the therapy sessions and what you want to do around your home. I have confidence in you. Hey, about your garden - we haven't had one in years. My flowers looked terrible this year and I never bought any to put in all the long pots on my retainer wall and front steps. That is another thing I want to work on this year.

I pretty much keep everything the same. I try to eat a little better and i also need to do some serious housecleaning. Other than that i don't have a lot of plans or changes.

I don't know about eating better, but I have been eating less this past year and lost and lost a little weight. And I need to lose more. As for the serious house cleaning, there is lots more I could do, but I would love to have some new floor covering to make it easier. We need new carpet and I would live wood in some rooms. Our kitchen and laundry room needs a new floor, too. But that doesn't look like it's in the cards right now.

That's a great thing to start your year... I guess I should also do the cleaning part coz I do have lots of clutter. I was thinking of getting rid of my clutters about 2 months ago, but haven't got the time and effort to do it. I should now do it coz just like what you've said, we have to make things better for ourselves, coz i think this is really a good start to make things better for myself and also for my family especially my kids. Happy New Year Barb42...

My husband is the best at not cluttering. He'd throw out anything that wasn't tied down if he knew he wouldn't get in trouble with me. He did it once many years ago and hasn't lived it down! I made custom drapes and had an ironing table for the drapes. SO he took it I wouldn't need my ironing board anymore and throwed it away! It was a nice heavy one, the kind you can't find anymore. I could have choked him! So he learned never to throw out anything of mine unless he asked!
