i remember when i was a kid, on Friday nights, they used to show low budget, usually black & white, cheesy horror movies. they used to show these on one of the local channels, and they would have the creepy old dude that would introduce the movie and shoot off one liners in between commercial breaks. i remember where i grew up, they had "Fright Nights" with Seymour....he was like an old undertaker or something and later on he was replaced by the not as cool Morris. then later on, that kind of programming went national with people like Elvira, Rhonda "Up All Night" and of course Count Floyd from SCTV. but i still remember being a kid and trying to stay up all night, watching those old horror movies, with the latex monsters, and being entertained by the local creepy host. i don't see anything like that anymore, not here anyways. do you guys still have the "scary" movies with a creepy host where you live. do you remember the creepy host from your past.

I remember Tales from the Crypt and Elvira and that's about it really. I wasn't allowed to watch them either so I never got much exposure to them until later in life and by then they just seemed corny! I'm an 80's teen so grew upw with the Freddy Kreugers and the like. The Love Boat used to scare the living crap out of me though! And what was with that little dude on Fantasy Island??? "The plane, the plane" while running around like a shaved ewok..... Scary stuff.

That's the dude..... Tattoo! Sad thing about that guy is that he ended up taking his own life. And as for the Gilmore Girls guybrush, the very uttering of those two words sends shivers down my spine! If they combined that show with "Ed" and "Days of our lives" then I think my hair may just turn white overnight!

This brings back a LOT of memories, Sconi - in fact, I wrote a blog about it a few months ago - http://guybrush57.wordpress.com/2008/06/19/mopknocker-plays-to-incontinent-audience/ It's funny how nothing seems particularly scary anymore ... I must be getting old!

OMG do I remember Up all night with Rhonda and when she left it was Gilbert Godfrey. Thanks to the b rated movies they showed I developed a true love of horror movies and books. I am very sad to say that we no longer have those types of shows or movies on any of the local channels where I live. I wish they would bring them back. Many a weekend was spent watching those old movies, it brought a smile to my face as I sat and remembered the hours that my brother and I would sit an watch what many people called bad b movies. LOL. Maybe I need to have my brother over for a bad b movie night. Thanks for the great memories I had all but forgotten about them.

Oh,I remember the good ol' Tales from the Crypt... If that's not cheesy, then I don't know what is lol I don't seem to see anything similar now,I guess people wouldn't buy that type of horror anymore. Nowadays we have another horror trend-slasher movies and the more gore, the better,e.g. Hostel

I didn't think he was scary even when I was 8 years old lol But some of the episodes turned out to be very disturbing for my young soul, for example, the one where unfaithful wife makes soap out of her husbands and becomes blind after using that soap

Hey sconi! I guess we are old because I do remember those cool scary movies!lol Of course I remember Elvira and "Up All Night"! I wanted to look just like her! (I mean with the makeup) Do you remember the "Crypt Keeper"? Now that was creepy and scary? I used to love that stuff! Those kind of movies were so fun! Now they are just to gory! That's not fun to me! It's nice taking a look back isn't it!

yep, the old classic monster movies were great. i'm still a big fan of horror movies, agreed the gore factor is a little off the charts, if it's a good story and causes you to think a little, it can still be pretty entertaining.

Yea you just don't see them on tv near as much anymore. They still put them on PBS during the week of halloween but that's about it. I know i used to wait till halloween and watch them but you'd have to look deep into finding them in a normal channel on tv these days. It's too bad because those were real acting back then.
