Do you put things off?

I always seem like I have so much to do so I tend to put things off. I need to renew my passport. I have put it off for almost a year now. Now that I have an increase in salary it looks as I might be able to travel sooner than I thought so I'll need to get it soon. Do you ever put things off?

We all wish we could change things about ourselves. I've gotten a lot better at not procrastinating. My problem is that I spend too much time and energy on work and don't make myself a priority.

I used to procrastinate on a lot of things and found that it can be controlled by a little discipline. I know have a rule, that if something is important, I will write it in my diary when I am going to do it. If it is written down in my diary then my rules state that it has to be done - no questions asked. It works for me and life becomes a lot easier. :-)Derek

lol wow thats really cutting it short. It can take up to 6 months to process a passport here so I really need to get on it. I don't want to be picking it out up on the day I fly out to south America. Thats definately way too much stress for me.

I definitely put things off. I need to go to the dentist for my yearly checkup and I've been putting of making the appointment for three months now. I hope I don't put it off until next year, lol. I hate making doctors appointments and always put them off, I put off going to the gynecologist for years. I also have to get my eyes checked and I've been putting that off too. I am a very big procratinator and I've also been putting off all the reviews I want to write for Reviewstream and Comparedbyus. I could make a few extra bucks wiht all the movies I've seen but I keep putting it off. So yes, I am terrible with that. I think a lot of people are.

I have been doing that a bit in the past. But no more.I have learnt not to procrastinate things. It brings irreparable loss to our life.So I tend to finish off the things then and there to be relieved and happy. "Spread a smile"

lol I wish! I always overbook myself. When I put things off then I just have too much to do the next day and it becomes overwhelming.

Yeah, I find myself starting things early, getting tired and thinking I'll finish it later. Then, I have to rush and finish it.

Yes! I do the exact same thing. I think everything is under control. Then I take a break or keep thinking I"m almost done. Then I go to do it at the last minute and I didn't leave myself enough time.. or sometimes something unexpected happens which makes it impossible to complete within the deadline.

Because I know that I am a procrastinator by nature, I try to get whatever I have to get done as quickly as possible. It doesn't work out all the time but most of the time and I am pleased with myself. But I do prioritize, what is more important gets done first etc.

A little bit of procrastination never hurt anyone - unless you are still procrastinating after 5 or 10 years. On the other hand if you can procrastinate for long enuogh then the situation will change enough that you do mnot have to make a decision at all. So sometimes there can be benefits in waiting for some time to pass before making a decision. Also if you put off makng a decision and the situation changes, then you have done the right thing by waiting to make your decision. Okay so in your case Monkeyrose, you will need to renew your passport because you are hoping to be able to travel now that you have your new job and a good increase in your earnings. So that is something that you really should be looking at doing in the next few months. If you are planning to travel during your holidays from work, it will no doubt be a year before you can do that, so you will have some time up your sleeve before it is essential to renew your passport. If however you are planing to save like mad for so many months until you save enough money to travel, it needs to be done sooner. What I am saying is that if you do not plan to stay at the job but rather spend what you can save to do extensive travel, then your passport will need to be renewed sooner. Seriously now. It is not too often that I put things off though, and that is mostly because of my time schedule. Today we did some weeding in the vegetable areas and although it could have been done tomorrow, we did it today. I will be off driving again later tonight and might be gone for a few days, depending on where the freight has to go. Also my partner is going to work in a couple of hours and will work till 6.00am, so after she waters the fruit and vegetables in the morning she will be going to bed to sleep. That means no weeding for her either, so under these circumstances I could not afford to put it off.

Hello Monkeyrose, Good to hear that you have an increase in your salary! Sometimes, I just love to put things off. Like you, I always feel like I have just too many things to do that I don't know where to start. I end up putting some things off first. It is not going to lessen the things that I need to do, it makes me have more and more stuff to settle!

I always put things off!! I hate because I think it is a bad example to show your kids. On weekends we don't do homework until Sunday nights. To me that shows it is ok to wait til last minute to do something and I am trying to break that habit. I also put off many other things too until last minute. Nothing comes to mind at the second, but I know there are many things. I think if I planned things more and was a little more organized I would be such a procrastinator.

How nice to have a salary increase. Hurry up and get your passport so you'll be able to take your trip. There are never enough hours in the day for me, so lots of things are put off till the next day, and then the next, and so on. I'm supposed to be retired, at least from my day job, so I obviously try to take on too much. At the moment, while I'm myLotting, I should be finishing an article I started writing this morning, also doing the accounts for my husband's taxi business, also loads of paperwork and filing, also quite a pile of ironing. I think I'd better go.
