Ice/Moisture Shot

This is a shot of my chimney from our furnace on the roof. It has been very frigid as of late here in Minnesota. When the heat escpaes there is moisture in the heat as expected. It then hits the frigid air causing an ice build up from the top part of the chimney. It drips onto the roof forming an ice type formation like this. The ice does not touch the smoke stack at all except at the base which is what makes this cool looking to me. This formation never lasts very long due to meltdown caused by the heat of the suns rays in the afternoons. I have seen the ice form up to about a foot in length. This formation is roughly about 8 inches in my estyimate. So it is rare that I get out in time to get a shot such as this. I love the bubble effect of these formations a lot. Just wanted to share this was all. Thanks all and have a great day/evening as well.

Well here in Minnesota this snow and cold won't be going away for a few months. Not until March more than likely.

Thanks for sharing this photo with us Grandpa Bob! It's amazing how a little bit of moisture can make really neat patterns and/or shapes in ice and snow! Today has actually been nicer out, we have -5 which is a MAJOR heat wave compared to the -30's and -40's with the windchill! The only bad part is if some of the snow starts to melt and it freezes over again at night the streets get like a skating rink!
Have a good day,
PurpleTeddyBear xx

Well keep warm as you seem colder than me actually. I keep wrapped in a blanket most the day sitting here at the comp. Dad has a small blanket as well he wraps in sitting in his chair also. I love the bubble look of this ice sculpture.

Don't worry Grandpa Bob we have lots of blankets, a good working furnace, and we aren't afraid to layer our clothing either for extra warmth! I too enjoy the bubble effect of the ice, it makes it unique and different!

That is very cool looking. I don't think I have ever seen anything like that. Of course, living in Florida, I'm not going to see much. Thanks for sharing!

I am nmot the type that always wraps up warmly though. That is one reason I get sick each winter. I tend to run outside too often with just my PJ bottoms and a shirt wearing my slippers. But oh well. Thanks.
