Migraine at 2:00 a.m.

I woke from a sound sleep at 2 a.m. with a pounding headache. As I lay there in the darkness of my room I listened to the sound of sleet hitting the side of the window. The living room clock had just chimed. One of the cats lay somewhere in the room and was grooming their coat. I tried to convince myself that it was just a headache.
Fifteen minutes later I rose from bed and headed to the kitchen for some pain medication. I only had a headache. When I got to the refrigerator to get out the milk I looked over at the clock on the coffee maker to check out the time. The red monster seemed to send out a death ray that pierced my eyes! Nausea made my stomach lurch. MIGRAINE!!!
I poured myself a small glass of milk and took a couple of tablets of medicine specifically meant to take for migraines. My stomach twisted in a knot. The milk tasted terrible. The light from the coffee maker was boring a hole through my eyes and out the back of my head.
Through the darkness I felt my way back into the bedroom. As I lay on my side I drew the thick feather comforter over my shoulders and up over my ears seeking warmth. The sound of my hubby snoring in the bed beside me was like a jackhammer! Gently I nudged him in his side in hopes of stopping the roar of his snoring!
Silence was mine for only a few minutes. A quick pat on the cheek and the snoring stopped again, but not for long.
My head felt as if it had been severed just above the eyebrows. My eyes felt like they bugged out of my head. The snoring was drilling a hole into my brain. Sleep finally grabbed hold of my body and I was drawn into the abyss.
I woke at 7 to the sound of the alarm clock. Carefully I opened my eyes. The pain wasn't as strong as it was a few hours earlier. It was now a dull ache. The early morning light didn't bother me. The meds were working.
The effects of the migraine lasted for most of the morning and into the afternoon. I was feeling much better later into the afternoon. Hopefully I will get a good night's sleep and not have to deal with another migraine for a while.

Ouch!
I woke up the other day with a pounding head, but I didn't get up and kept going back to sleep and happily I woke up without the pain.
I'm glad your migraine gave up in the face of the meds. And the snoring... I'd've probably been sleeping some other place or he would be snoring some other place.
I tried to not move and alert the cats I was awake, they have an annoying tendency to walk on me, even my head when I wake up during the night.

One of the cats was above my pillow a couple of nights ago. I didn't stay awake long enough to check out which one it was!

My daughter gets migraines pretty often. They have run all sorts of tests on her to see what could be causing them and so far nothing. While she was here she started getting a headache friday night and saturday morning she had a full blown migraine. The minor emergency clinic just up the road from me opened at 9am and we were there before that and people were waiting outside to get in. About 45 minutes later we left after we realized that not one single person had been called back yet and the doctor was there. I called and found another one real close by that took patients until 11 am on Saturdays so she got in there, barely but she made it. She always has to get a shot for the headache and they also put meds for neausea in the shot. She finally got a few hours sleep and was feeling much better that evening and was able to drive their trip home the next day.
I hope you are able to get a good night's sleep tonight.

Fortunately I have never needed to have a shot to relieve my migraines. My brother had to get them years ago.

Here is hoping you get a good nights sleep, pain free. I don't get many headaches and have only had a few really bad ones. The last bad one I had, I lay in bed, begging God to just ease the pain, it was pure agony. I took medicine, waited a few hours, took some more, I finally went to sleep, first thing when I woke up, I noticed the headache was gone. I was so relieved.

Thankfully I don't get these often. But, when I do I am down for the count without taking the migraine tablets.

Have you tried taking a magnesium supplement? For some people a regular routine of taking magnesium reduces or eliminates headaches, especially migraines and PMS associated headaches. I find that I have almost no headaches as long as I take that supplement. Bonus is that you need to have magnesium to use calcium in your body.

I had been taking magnesium supplements but stopped taking them to see if my body really missed them. I was told to take them to help ease muscle tension.

I have had more than my fair share of them. But thankfully not as often as some people do.

Migraines are NO FUN. I honestly think these are sometimes about the worst type of headache anyone can deal with, and mine continue to get worse as I get older for sure. I really wish I knew what to do for them to help change these for good. All I can say is taking something for them and getting some Sleep and away from light is what seems to work the Best for me as well.

I hate when that happens. I'm usually sound asleep and wake up with a jackhammer in my head. I can't lie down, sit up, roll over, as it hurts every which way. I take my meds asap and put a heating pad on my head to ease the throbbing. And yes every noise is magnified and sounds 10x louder. Smells are nauseating and any movement is agony. Even when I get some relief, it usually comes back a few hours later in full force. Hope you feel better!

Oh, I am so sorry that you has this dreadful migraine. I have to say though, that they way that you decribed it so so descriptive. You should develop and use this writing ability of yours as you do have talent.
With regard to a snoring husband - I used to pinch my husband's nose and he would stop snoring lonf enough for me to sleep!LOL
I do hope that you get a good niight's sleep this evening. Blessings
