What makes a qualified tour guide?

During travel, I met with a lot of tour guides, who are professional, friendly and helpful, but there are also some who are with you just for their monthly pay. I believe good knowledge about the scenic spots is very important. Being considerate is especially important to the seniors. What other traits do you think make a good tour guide?

A qualified tour guide has an itinerary in mind and they take a group of tourists around a destination or on a tour. They will give historical information about the area they are showing the group of tourists. He or she will probably be able to answer any questions that the tourists ask. It would be appropriate for the tour guide to be very helpful to seniors. They might know some lovely view stops great for photography. I am an independent traveler and I only take a guided tour when necessary. I had to have one in German at a castle in the winter even though I am English. I went on a valuable walking tour of Riga and felt the qualified tour was kind to me knowing that I had to push my son along in his buggy. When I was at Mayan ruins in Guatemala I had an interesting and enjoyable guided tour. The guide had excellent knowledge of plants and animals.
