Will you do it? As in try to perform one charity act a day? Be it giving some one some loose change. Or letting your seat up to a pregnant lady. Or even helping your office admin to retrieve her printouts. DO you actually make an effort to perform at least one charity act per day?

I used to be like that. I used to give money to people on the street. I used to give my coffee away, when I saw someone cold, homeless. I would still do it, if I had more money. But, now I am the one who has nothing left.(almost nothing) One time I needed to take the train. A man came inside, begging for some change. I did not even pay my ticket, because I did not have the money for it. So, I looked at him and said: "Nope, have you got some for me? I am broke too". You should have seen his face, hahaha! He got a little grumpy and then put his hand in his pocket. He wanted to give me some small change, and I told him to keep it. But, I thanked him because he was willing to give that little he had. Charity starts with looking after yourself first, something I did not do enough of. Take care.

I cannot imagine what an awkward situation that was. Imagine, he came asking for change. But he was asked for changed instead. Well, like the saying goes, one good deed deserves another. I guess that day was the day some one offered one to you.

hahaha! Yes, it was nice to now someone would try to help me too. That helps a person feel better. At the same time it helps to respect others more. After all, we are all people with feelings, weather we have money or not. Take care.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It feels good to be the one performing the charitable act. Cos you feel good about helping other people. But that once in a while when you receive help, or even been offered help, you feel good about it too. Cos you know that there is one more person who care enough to want to help you. It is a two way feel good thing to be charitable.

I'm always doing charity everyday.. haha =D Be it giving up seats or helping out strangers, i'm doing it all.. BUt to me, i dun take those as charities, rather than i happen to be there, and i have to help out since i'm able to do so ^_^ Just like the other day, i helped to carry a baby pram up the escalator when the shopping mall was doing a fire drill.. As i was helping, the rest just watched and not even knowing how to give way to me.. PLus, the poor mother was supporting the weight at the other side, and yet nobody wanna take over her.. That's the ugly side of most human, or rather singaporeans..

I dunno. I guess that is a mindset that needs changing. Like you said, charity is not just about giving money. Well, I guess the best way to start is with little gestures like giving up your seat to some one who needs it more. Holding the door for the person behind you. Or even as simple as greeting someone who is providing a service to you and thanking him afterwards. It will at least make the day for someone.

I know exactly what you mean my friend. Our own fellow man can be really selfish. But there are some that are really helpful as well. You are one shiny example. Well, when we have kids of our own, we must make it an effort to cultivate in them a sense of empathy. Then they will not be behaving like the rest of our selfish fellow men.

But too bad, charitable ple are far too few now.. Even there are any, they will choose to be anonymous, or they might even choose to donate money instead of really helping directly.. I mean, what's so embarassing of helping those in need when we see them??

I try to do something positive each day. I am available to help people whenever I can. I try to bring a smile to someone each day. I do those things automatically so I am not really sure if I do it every single day or not. I guess it comes from when I was a scout and we were encouraged to do a good deed each day:)

Some things don't cost a cent and can do a whole lot of good to others and ourselves :)

That is a good thing to do. To be able to do a good deed a day and on an automatic basis. Not everyone can claim that. I am sure you are doing that on a daily basis. Bring a smile to someone and feeling good about it too. Keep up the good work my friend!

I so agree with you. And it is those things that are the most priceless to those on the receiving end. That is what charity is all about.

I guess charity acts don't always have to be in the form of money. Like you said, an act of kindness, consideration, concern for people around us, has far greater power than giving money. Because this not only makes a difference in their lives, but also helps the society to become a better place to live in. For me, I try to say 'good morning', 'hello' or smile to friends and colleagues to start a new day. On other occasions I would love to give to those who busker in the streets and train stations.

Yeah, a greeting to a person certainly makes a difference to the person who is receiving it. One thing for sure, he will not feel so dull at his job cos he knows some one notices his presence in providing the service. I always make it a point to try and greet the people I meet too. At the very least, it shows that you know they exists! Something that is really lacking in the society today!

i don't really make an effort to do that. i don't believe in doing it for the sake of doing it. to me, the act should come from the heart. if there is a need, i'm fine to do it ten times a day. if there isn't, i'm also fine to not do any for a stretch of days. there'll be days when i come across many that i can help. there will also be days that i won't see anyone less well-off than me. so i guess it really depends on who i met during the day. cheers

Yo... applefreak! Long time no see yah! Where have you been?!? Anyways, back to the topic... it is good that you are able to perform such charity acts from the heart. I too know what you mean about not being able to find something charitable to do on some days. As long as you are doing charitable acts, i am sure it will count towards your good points. Keep up the good work my friend!

I don't think I "set" myself to do a charity act daily. I guess it's already an in-built thing in my system? But I'd always be discerning especially when it comes to donations as we have countless frauds here & some are just plain lazy. My little sister told me once her friend conveyed this to her there's this certain "beggar" who had a car - this guy would take 2 parking lots everyday at this particular place. One for his car & one for him to sit / lie there to beg. It's just so crazy. Other than that I'm always willing to lend a helping hand. I know what goes around comes around; so does the wise farmer when he throw seeds, he'll sow in good ground where there are good returns

Yeah, I read about such "beggars" before. They were featured in one of the local news tablods. And that few beggars that were featured were badly condemned. It is good that you are able to do charitable acts without having to make a concious effort. Keep up the good work my friend.

I forgot about doing a good deed every day. Thank you for reminding me. I gave up watching the news because it was always bad but was still left with the impression that the world was full of scame artists and nothing was as it seems. I was brought up to think that it was only a good deed if not boasted about but internet marketing (which I have been doing recently) seems to be all about bragging that the reason to join you or your program is better than investing anywhere else. I have been trying to spread a smile. I must try harder to do a good deed again. It will make me feel better and then the good luck will come my way.

I don't require myself to perform at least one charity act per day. Because it's not a task. I can do so whenever it's necessary. Such as yesterday I gave a little money to a little girl in the street. My son asked me why and I just told him she needed money for the food. And if I am in the bus, I will give my seat to anyone who is in need. This is not a must, it's only a natural behavior from me. I love China

It is good that doing charity is a habit for you. Not everyone does it like you do. If everyone has a habit of charity, the world would be a much brighter place. Keep up the good work my friend!

I do volunteer work regularly but I never thought of something as simple as what you suggest in your post. It's a fabulous idea and I'm going to incorporate it into my day starting right now. Everything that you give comes back to you in so many ways. Thanks for the post

ha ha ha ha ha... I never expected that to become an inspiration to you. I was watching TV when this saying was mentioned. So I just wrote about it. It also makes me wonder if I am doing such kinds acts in my daily routine. I must also pay more attention to do more charity acts.
