Being moms we all know that we end up doing most projects for our kids. My second grader has to make a model of the earth's different land features. We have to show mountians, plains, water, hills, and valleys. I can figure out what to use for most of it, just cant't figure out what to do about the water. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Use thin small paper (cant remember what it is called) and either paint that blue or choose a blue paper before.

School projects are unbearable sometimes, aren't they? I've had so many nights with my daughters in tears over trying to finish them... and you're right sassy - we always end up helping! I'm not sure the structure of the project you're working on but for the water, could you use any of these ideas? - Blue playdoh - Colored cling wrap (do the Glad or Saran folks make that in blue? If they do, you could just put some glue down and "mush up" the wrap to crinkle it) - I hate to suggest this one but... LOL!... blue jello? - If it's just flat and glued down, you could use blue glitter (which would be a lot more solid than the jello!) - Royal icing (that dries quite solid on cakes) tinted blue - Could white school glue have food coloring mixed in it? If you can let us know what materials you are using for the rest of the project, maybe I can think of some other ideas... and good luck! ;)

Thanks to both of you, that gives me some good ideas. For the mountains I am using the strafoam that you use for flowers. I am going to jagger it, then paint it brown. The valley will just be the bottom area of moubtain and hills. Hills going to use green modeling clay, just smaller than the mountains.

We never have to do these projects here in Sweden, but it's it the kids that should do them, not the parents?I would never make a school project that my children were supposed to do by them selves - what's the point of the projects if they don't make them. I think it would be the same as doing their home work;-) and I guess you're not doing their home work. For water I would use a mirror or some aluminium foil.
