Figurative Verbs... CAN YOU HELP ME?!?

I know I'm suppose to be doing my own homework,
but I cannot find some figurative verbs on certain
words and you'd be a big big big help to me if you
can help me out with these. :)
To hem
To break
To sweeten
To jump
To whip
To soar
Example: Politicians tend to skirt conversational questions.
I already got the majority of what I am suppose to do,
I just cannot come up with a variety of sentences like
at the moment...

I asked my mother to hem my pants ? like that ?
I broke my finger when i slammed the car door shut
I put sugar in my coffee to sweeten it.
My friend has a trampoline i like to jump on.
I like to whip my potatoes aposed to mashing them.
I like to watch the eagle soar in the sky.
hah that was easy.. maybe i did it wrong.
