What is your opinion on the future of hydrogen as a energy source?
I think it has a good chance to become the potential fossil fuel as well as energy source in the future.
As fossil fuel, it can be doubted because of its a dangerous explosive nature.
As an energy source for domestic homes too, it needs lost of energy for photoelectrolysis and electrolysis, mainly from solar farms and windfarms, which in turn needs a large amount of land and infrastructure. Its estimated to be a costly process.

Hydrogen is not an energy source. It is a way of storing energy.
As you point out yourself, it requires electrolysis to make hydrogen. You need to use energy to make it, and you never get more energy out then what you put in. In fact, due to hard to remove inefficiencies, you actually get less energy out than what you put in, which is the case for any energy storage system.
I think hydrogen is important for the future, but as a way to store renewable energy sources. Sources such as wind and solar, and tidal are abundant but not reliable as to when they give you the energy. Hydrogen would be a great way to store the energy when it's produced and then use it (it could even be shipped) when you need the energy.
Although hydrogen by itself is explosive, the way hydrogen is stored for energy use isn't. You don't just put hydrogen into a high pressure tank. It is stored very safely by putting into what are called metal hydrates, Tis is a proven, safe technology.

This is gonna be a top discussion in the future years, I feel we need to cap on these other options for enegry. Solar and water to me are the biggest. The technogoly is here and we need to use it. We are way to dependent on other countries for fossil fuels and I hope things are ready for some big changes and I am gonna be very happy when they do. I think this was a great topic to start and I hope you get some more responses as well. Happy mylotting and have a great day!

Thanks for your reply.
I agree.
I too feel we're moving too slowly with clean energy and fuels compared to other technologies.
The biofuels were a big disaster as they were found to be more polluting and toxic than fossilfuels.
While solar is a good source, water is not that easy. Hydroelectric dams cause a lot of enviromental damages, and can also manipulate the rivers and clean water supply to villages and towns that depend on it.
We're looking forward to solar, wind and other clean fuels developing in the near future.
