I have a Starter Brand winter coat. This coat is down filled. It is very warm even too hot most times actually due to the down filled feathers. This is one of the very tiny feathers from the filling as it waqs sitting on my end table in the living room. This feathjer is actually half the length of a standard straight pin. Very small. Just wanted to share this as I love odd photos etc. Do you own anything that is down filled at all? Pillows come with down filling as well for comfort. Just curious is all. Thanks all in advance.

They don't make down filled things like they used to. My grandmother used to have a feather mattress and I don't ever recall seeing feathers all around and never remember getting poked by a feather. I used to have a pillow and it poked me really bad and feathers everywhere even with two zipper cases and a pillow case on it.

They still make as many various items down filled. Most are now found at sp[ecialty stores like a camping styore or outdoor store etc. I am srating to lose the feathers little by litt;le as the coat is almost 5 years old.

I don't have anything with down in it, it turns out I'm allergic to it! When I was small we had feather pillows and I would find it hard to breathe at night. The doctor said I had asthma and I guess I did. I think the pillow aggravated it. Later, I had a down sleeping bag and was miserable. I found out when I was in my 20's that I'm allergic to down! But I sure did love those down pillows, they were great!

But they are very costly.

I love odd photos too, Grandpa Bob. This shot is really cool!
I have a down comforter that I love to sleep under. Unfortunately it is only ever cold enough to sleep under it about 12 days a year here in Texas. I sadly fold it down to the foot of my bed most nights of the year.

Hey Grandpa Bob! Yes I used to have feather pillows! But,
the feathers kept coming through the pillows and they would
end up stabbing me in the face when I was trying to sleep!
I finally got tired of picking up the wayward feathers and
gave up those pillows to the garbage can! I have never bought
those kind again! I know down is very warm, but those feathers
do manage to poke through~!

No, I don't own anything filled with down. And now I feel deprived. I have heard references to down comforters and such, yet never have I had the pleasure of testing these things out for myself. I guess that is one of the things I'll add to do before I die.

I just LOVE my goose-down pillow. Actually, we had 2 of them but they were getting pretty flat and ragged so I combined them into one pillow and now it's mushy full again for me to cuddle with right before I go to sleep.

I dont think I have one now but I used to have a woolrich vest that was down filled. It was not that warm though even though it had down in it. Those vests kind of look cool to wear sometimes but I really dont thing they are that warm. I just dont think they are.

Great Jacket. I do not think I have anything filled with down feathers, except for a duvet and a few old pillows.
You certainly need a jacket like that where you are, with all that snow and zero temperatures. Yeah I know what you mean though about getting to warm with a jacket on, as I cannot stick feeling this way and always wear lighter ones, especially if I am driving.

I use to own a down comforter, it was really nice and I loved sleeping under it, but when I got married, my hubby was allergic to it...it took us a few weeks to figure out what was making him sneeze...LOL, so sadly I had to get rid of it.. but it was nice while I had it.

Does the tag tell you what type of down they use? DO you know when they say Down what part of the bird that comes from?
When they down it is the small pin feathers in the front or the behind if I remember my biology classes right.

My daughter has a down coat. It keeps her very warm. On a day like today when it s 15 degrees it came in very handy. It was a gift from her Aunt. I do not have a down coat. I have coats that are leather, wool, and jean. No down pillows either. THey tend to make me sweat. I have a memory foam pillow.

You want get cold ion that coat. Amazing. I remember that my mother had down filled pillows and they were always so soft and she also have several down filled quilts or comforters. We used to huddle under these quilts at night in the winter. Three girls to a bed! They always out me in the middle as I was the youngest but I didn't mind as I was always cold. I still have horrible memories of being cold in my childhood. I can never escape them It was awful not having enough heat. No wonder I moved to a hot country.

I love down. The only pillows I buy for the beds are down pillows. (I even take a down pillow with me if I'm traveling and going to be staying in motels) I also have a down comforter and of course a down jacket. They haven't come up with a synthetic that comes even close to the warmth and softness of down.
