Learning and life... what it means?

After more years of schooling than I care to remember, all I know how to do is to figure out what the square root of something, where the North Pole is and who died in which war. The world around us keep swelling with more and more information. And with the evolution of technology, we have learned that calculators and computers can do far more than just figure out what the angle of a three-sided equilateral triangle is. We know the direction of the migration of birds. But we are not sure in which direction we want to go ourselves. We have dissected assorted fish, rabbits and toads. But we have never really explored the dynamics of emotions or human relationships. We can construct perfects sentences and we may even hand in perfect essays of diverse subjects. But we do not know the practical magic of communication. Everything that the education that we have been through, has been designed to tell us everything we know how to do, except to live a life full of any sort of sense. Maybe that is the way it should be. A way of unraveling life's mysteries. A discovery of all life's secrets which are in fact neither mysterious nor secretive for that matter. That is where experiences comes in. It is the glue that gels the facts we learned from our education in life, to the realities of life that we can never learn in books or a classroom environment. This glue is the very essence that makes life worth living. It is this glue, that sometimes makes life, well, sensible. Life is a vision. And depending on where you stand on your level of growth, whether it is vertical or horizontal growth, the further you go in your learning altitude, the clearer your horizon becomes. And it not only becomes clearer, it becomes larger as well.

yeah, u are very right.. School is just about learning of general things, and it';s nothing really useful as compared to life experiences.. Whatever taught in school is known to all, and understood by all.. But when it comes to certain experiences or real life situations, alot of us will find that we are actually stuck.. It's simply because we dun have any guidelines to follow through now.. ON top of that, school keeps teaching us about rules and restrictions.. But when it comes to life, there are no restrictions and limits at all.. lol =D Thus, i always dun really like to study and absorb all those useless information when i dun even need them in the future.. lol =D I will rather depend on myself, using failure to teach me about life ^_^

Yeah... I so agree with you my friend. We studied so many things in life. And so many of that stuff is not particularly useful in real life. But when we come out to work, the experiences we encounter, some of the stuff we learned in school, suddenly makes sense. So just rogue learning is not enough. Experience is what makes the material we studied more useful as we understand better what we are studying.

That's why, what's the difference between a dropout and a degree holder when both actually have the capability to become their own boss?? lol =D Instead of wasting my money in school, i might as well explore to gain experience.. haha

I think they have classes you can take to understand the human experience called "Philosophy". Unfortunately, those whom I've known who studied philosophy were themselves extremely screwed up people! I honestly believe that some people simply think way too much about the meaning of life. I mean, if you have the time to sit and contemplate, that's fine but most of us are too busy living life to have the time to figure it out. Personally, I've tried. What I concluded was that what we are is life. What I am is my life, what you are is your life. There really isn't much more to it than that. I'm a believer in evolution so that's most likely why I formed the opinion I have. Sounds kind of depressing, huh?

Or, have I completely misunderstood the meaning of your discussion?

Well, you are right about some people having time to contemplate about life. But they never took the time to live life! Sad, isn't it?

Hi ahgong, I agree with what you say here while we need education, it is experience that brings it all together. Education itself can only give us the tools to start learning. It is when we get out and start living in the real world that we see how little we really know about life, the tools however are very important. Blessings.

Yeah, experience is the glue that brings all our education together. Cos each alone is not enough to make the right decisions. Thanks for sharing your point of view with me.

Hi, U r SO CORRECT and Phylosophically RIGHT. Can we say that LIFE is a Learning-Ground ? Every moment we r learning the Rule of the game(from Mistakes, from success, from Ignorance, from wisdom...).So unique opportunity have been provided to LEARN.Life thus is a session, enjoy learning.. & every bit of It. =Lahiri,Kolkata,India.
