cold. It was 18 degrees here. And we had a snow storm. More it seems is on the way. It is the 1st big snow for us. There were people all over the news that took their kids sledding today. The snow will be here for a few more days. Doesn't look like we will get much over freezing for a whole week.
So my daughter will have plenty of time to play in it. With Sleet coming down off and on all day, I kept her inside.

The hill by my workplace has a series of marks which indicate it was a sledding resort for awhile during our recent snowfall. Kind of cute. I've also, however, noticed tire marks in what should be people's yards. I know it can be hard to see where the road ends in the snow, but I think these represented a pretty bad error in judgment on someone's aprt.

I don't have much experience with snow being from Southern California. I think it sounds like you made a wise decision. Childrens safety is always best. Boy that's cold!!!!

It is very cold here too. We got some snow and now we have alot of freezing rain. It is our first big snow this year also. We did not go out in it either even though my husband wanted to. It is too slick and you cannot do much with it other than sledding.

Hello ersmommy. When I was young, I used to love to play with and in the snow a lot, like making snowmen and having snow fights. But now I am no longer interested in playing with it any more, yet I have to say that I love to see the snowfall for its beauty. Enjoy yourself, friend.

How cold is too cold depends on a lot of things- the age of the child, how well dressed they are, how windy it is and most importantly, what kind of temperatures they are used to. If I didn't take my son out when it gets down to 18 degrees, he wouldn't see the light of day for about 3 months straight. But even though I take him out, I think about all of those other factors and decide how long to stay out. If he seems like he's not having fun anymore, or it is very windy, I take him in after only a short while. The fact that there was sleet would keep us inside pretty often, too.
If 18 is much colder than you and your daughter are used to, and you know it will be warming up within a couple of days, then it is probably best to stay inside. But if it stays cold and you're both feeling cooped up, even just 5 or 10 minutes outside can make a world of difference.

If my kids were older I would definatly let them play. All bundled up of course. And for a little bit, not more than an hour. But we are in chicago and it has been below zero for the past week, so we have inside and the snow is frozen ice. Its not fun at the moment.

My son went outside and played out back today for a little but, but I made me 2 year old stay inside. It is just too cold for her. She was a little mad about it, but I told her that I would let her go out tomorrow maybe when there was not anything actually coming down.

if there was a chance of sleet in 18 degree weather, oh heck no I wouldn't be letting my son out of the house. now if it wasn't and my son was older, then it's possible, but not for long. He's only a year old so I don't take him out much these days as it's been single digits here.

Well, as you know, we're used to the cold climates, and we're used to lots more snow than you're getting. 18 above zero is pretty warm for us, so we probably would have been out sledding. But it's all about what you're used to. You aren't used to freezing temps, so you're more cautious about it. Around here, once the weather hits 40 you'll see people out in shorts and sleeveless shirts!
