just how permanent is a vasectomy ??

my hubby has been clipped for 3 yrs and everyone tells me that i should start being carefull now since alot of ppl have gotten preggo around the 3-5 yr ann of the "clipping" have any of you gotten a lil suprise a few yrs after wards ?? ~M~

It really depends. We're at a point with technology that vasectomys are gradually becoming better and better. In the past (don't know how long ago though) we would simply tie things up and then leave it, only to find out that it would heal. Now doctors are really doing great with cutting and burning to ensure that everything stays "broken." So if you're worried and can afford it, have it done once more by a well known doctor in your area. But I haven't heard anything about a 3-5 year mark.

well our doc didnt burn him he said that research showed that burning didnt really help so he just double knotted him , im sure he did a good job since the doc knew of my health issues and didnt wanna see me preggo again after 4 kids lol but i always wonder about those knots .... ~M~

They are getting better, but tissue can heal itself, and Things happen.. But it is becoming more and more rare now with the knew technology they use. It is better to get it burned if you want it permanent - DNatureofDTrain

that's like the last I heard on those who got a tubal ligation that the last reading on it was I think 1 in 250 get pregnant...was 1 in 1000...go figure...would make me a lil nervous
