We are in the middle of a blizzard here and I just got the weirdest phone call EVER. The Chief of Police on a recording called me to ask me (and I think everyone else in town, it was one of those robo call things) if we'd seen this guy. Apparently this 51 year old guy took off yesterday and no one has seen him since. Given the weather people are worried. Has anything like that ever happened where you live? Did they find the person? Were they all right? Did you ever find out why they left?

Yes it happens anywhere, it's nice that they have those robo calls now though so that many people can be looking for them. I wish I could say it always turns out alright. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. It happens often with older people with dementia. They walk off get tired lay down somewhere and die. Fifty one is young for dementia but no age is too young for hypothermia which of course can easily happen in a blizzard. Hypothermia makes you very tired and often people suffering from it think they'll sit or lay down for just a few minutes then get up and go on...but unless found they often don't get back up. They go to sleep and never wake up. Hope your guy is found safe and sound.

That is strange. I guess it is something new that they can do. I know the schools send a recording, but never heard of the police department doing it.

We have that kind of phone warning system in our area too. Once it was for somebody who 'escaped' and we were to keep on the look-out for him. (The police picked him up out in front of our house, he stuck out like a sore thumb in his striped outfit lol.) I think these automated warning things are a real good public service. Keeps people in the loop. If it was an alzheimers patient, or child, missing, at least people would be on the look-out for them so they can be found and back to safety. These messages are kind of like an Amber alert in a way, although not for missing children specifically, it still would help find somebody that's missing, and they would more likely be found.

Emergency 911 - If you see this man please call!
Hi there, This is the first time I have ever heard of this type of call. I have read the other responses from the others here, and I guess it seems to be a new technology. I know that we do not have this service available here in Canada yet but of course that does not mean that it's not on its way. As for how it may turn out, I suppose it depends on why he left in the first place? If it is indeed a lost person, or if he chose to disappear and is not really want to be found. I guess only time will tell the outcome in this particular case. I hope for the individual and for his family's sake, everything turns out OK? Happy Mylotting!
