Ice cliffs

Ice cliffs - This is where the road cuts through the mountain to form a cliff. The water from rain flows down over the cliff and freezes. The spot in the center is where the ice has melted and the water is flowing.

I am constantly amazed at the beautiful scenery up here among these mountains. I actually live in a valley so no matter where I want to go I usually have to go at least up the side of a mountain, if not also down the other side. I moved up here this summer and was amazed at some of the sites I saw. I was just getting used to this kind of driving though and didn't have the courage to stop and take pictures but I really wanted to. By the time I found my way around and was comfortable with driving up and down it had become winter and I thought I would have to wait until spring for some good shots. I was sure wrong. A couple of weeks ago we had quite a bit of rain then the temperature dropped way below freezing. That morning I had to go over the mountain and I saw a beautiful site. Check out these pictures for my first scenic view.

Hey, that's a good idea. I actually had several good shots of different areas as went up the mountain but I could only upload one into this discussion. Thanks for the idea. I will probably do that tomorrow when I am not so tired.

Thank you. I am constantly amazed at the beauty that surrounds us. I carry my camera everywhere now that I have learned how to use a digital.

That's beautiful! Ice in Tennessee? Is that unusual in your part of the state? It's been especially cold in a lot of the country this year!

This is my first winter here so I'm not sure how typical it is. My daughter says it happens every year though.
