Hello there mylotters! Did you realize that today was Groundhog Day? And yes, the little bugger saw his shadow so that means that we will have six more weeks of winter weather! Uggg! I'm not too happy about that at all. What do you think? And better yet, do you think the old groundhog is right about his predictions each year? Or is this all just a bunch of hooey? I can remember all the excitement when I was a kid about the groundhog and did he see is shadow or not? Big deal on Groundhog Day but then after some thought, you never hear 6 weeks later if he was "right on" or made a "boo-boo". So what are your thoughts about this interesting day?

Hey, so interesting that we have a similar day for that hint. Before reading your post, i thought that only we Chinese have some special terms indicating climate change. It seems that people worldwide note down the weather alterance in their way for long. In China, we call in Lichun in Pinyin, which means the spring is approaching. As the name indicates, Chun means spring, and li means establishment. woo, thank god, winter is gone. I dislike winter only because of its coldness.

Well, with the weird weather that the US and the rest of the world is having this yr. does it really surprize you that the Groundhog saw his shadow? Places are seeing Snow this winter that have not seen in over 20 yrs. and most places are being caught off guard as well. Overall I think we are really past the Global warming thing, and not sure what is going on here, but I too am 100% ready for Spring and guaranteed warmer weather for sure.

Well the global warming is now being called Climate Change and it certainly has changed! I'm all for an early spring and it couldn't get here fast enough for me!

well here in canada we do have winter for six more weeks so it doesn't matter, but usually they say if the groundhog didn't see his shadow the rest of the winter would be milder. I don't take much stock in that I forget it was groundhog day until I got online, I would have written a story on it had I remembered lol.

I'm sure you have way more winter left than we do in southern Louisiana and Mississippi! I don't think I could survive up there hehe. Stay warm!

To me it is just a fun thing that they do. I don't think it matters if the groundhog sees its shadow or not. I'm sure some years he has been right, sometimes he has been wrong. It is a pretty up in the air thing. But I like how the media talks about it. It gets kids involved in weather, however small that involvement might be. Heck, it might even make kids nicer to little creatures that look funny!

I agree and it is fun for kids. Who knows, it could be a motive to become a weatherperson :)

The little fellow is not always right, but it helps take the dull drums away for a bit. This has been one interesting year for weather.

The past few years have been interesting with all the drastic weather all over the United States! I am really hoping that we are spared any bad hurricanes this year, especially in Louisiana! We still hear Katrina stories, then Rita followed and last year Gustov was even worse than Katrina in my area. Have a great day!

I hear you about the weather. Last year in Wisconsin, we had flooding and also torrential rains. Hoping it won't be that way this summer.

I love that movie but I didn't actually think it was a real thing that happens! I mean with the little thing popping up and all that? That's too cute - and probably as accurate a way to predict the weather as any other lol. You will just have to hope he's wrong this year though - six more weeks of winter weather is not good!

He's just as good as the weathermen, haha. He only has a 50/50 chance of being right. They have to cover the whole range. LOL!

That means here in Minnesota we are going to have 10 more weeks of winter. Then it will be construction season. This shadow garbage is just a ploy and I never beleive it here in Minnesota; as our winters can end in March or May; so a groundhog seeing or not seeing his shadow can't tell me when winter ends. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Where I live honey, the little bugger as you call him sees his shadow year after year after year. It's always six more weeks of winter, then six more and six more forever hehehe. Take Care and don't freeze up.

I never got excited over the whole groundhog day thing. It always seems to be sunny when Pugsatonie Pete comes out of his hole that day. But if you count, from Feb 2 to March 20/21st, its about six weeks anyway. A groundhog seeing his shadow doesn't change time. So its a novel idea for kids to get into, just to learn the seasons and see if they are paying attention. But truly, its nonsense.

I do not know if he is right or not. I do not like the movie with Bill Murry have you seen it? I think it is a bunch of hooey from the good old boys club.

It will be different everywhere! That is what doesn't make sense...why should be rely on a groundhog in Penn to dictate the weather to all of us throughout the United States?

my bad. it is canada that celebrates, " le jour de la marmotte" which is french. sorry bout that. but yeah i wonder if canada saw their shadow too. seems like their weather would be different then ours though.

I did not realize it until I got to work and saw people talking about it :) It doesn't even phase me. Only thing I think about ground hog day is "I like that movie!" haha. I don't think the groundhog's predictions mean anything other than it just so happens that the shadow is gonna be there if the weather is a certain way. I remember being excited as a kid, but then I also remember almost everytime I was told "6 more weeks of winter!" So now I dont even pay attention b/c I know winter in MI will go through February!!

Yep, I'm sure most of us can expect winter through February and most of March too! I can even remember some cold weather in April with a heavy frost on the ground. I hope that isn't the case this year! Bring on the spring, sunshine and flowers!

I have to chuckle when I watch that poor little ground hog stick his head out and see his shadow. I think its funny cause no matter what from that day on there are 6 weeks of winter left any way. I can remember being all upset cause he always saw his shadow. Then I was told that no matter what there is 6 weeks of winter left any way. It just gives me something to look forward to. 6 more weeks till spring. Whoo hoooo. Cant wait.

That's one good way to think of it! We have weird weather here in the south anyway. We broke a record high last week with a temperature of 81 in January! So maybe there is still hope for us! Keeping my fingers crossed!!
