Here in Minnesota we were set to go the whole month of January withoput getting about the freezing mark of 32 degrees F. But Saturday was one hell of a nice day. It got to 51 degrees in my area. We lost about 5 to 6 inches of snow cover from the heat and sunshine. Roads were a mess due to splash back fropm the melting snow etc as well. Anyhow this photo shows my patio table in the back yard. Friday it was covered to the middle almost and now the whole thing is almost visible. Still have about 6 to 8 inches of snow left. Now today (Monday) it is 8 degrees and a windchill of -13F. Tonight we are goping to get down to around -5F as well. So in a few days time that will be a temperature swing of nearly 60 degrees. Did yopu have a January thaw at all? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Ice Storm - Drooping trees after 10 inches of snow and 2 inhes of ice
No January thaw but we had a Janary Blizzard! Totaled out with 10 inches of snow and 2 inches of ice last Tuesday resulting in power outages and blocked roads. It was a mess! Our power was out for 4 days. We toughed it out the first night with propane heaters but as soon as they cleared the trees from our road we weathered the rest of it from the comfort of a motel! LOL Yesterday it was 55 degrees so as you might guess we have power now and today has been flooding everywhere. Now tongiht we are predicted the same thing again just a little weaker storm moving through only threatening us with 6-8 inches of snow and 1 inch of ice. That should be a treat! LOL I am so ready for Spring. The snow is no biggie but this crazy ice is nuts! This is a pictue of some of the lucky trees on our property that managed to remain standing after all of this! Winter's not over yet for us!

I have had 2 blizzards aso fdar this wqinter. One we got 10 inches and the other we had almost 8 inches. No ice storms this year yet though here in Minnesota. Glad you survived the ice storm also. Power without 4 days is nasty. I would go crazy actually I fear. Take care and hope this storm is not as bad as the last. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

A January thaw??? We haven't even had a January freeze in south Texas. hahaha That sure is a big change in temperatures in a day's time. We have big changes at times also but not sure if it is that much of a change. We have a northerly wind now and it is 70 and will be in the 30's tonight.

Ours was early on in the month, actually before the deep freeze hit. But, after having bitter bitter cold and wind and rock hard ice and snow from being frozen all week, we had a thaw on the first day of February. From the teens and twenties on Saturday to the mid-50s on Sunday! It was nice for a while to see everything white, without it being so deep we couldn't get around. It's pretty when it's a white wonderland. So clean, so bright, so fresh.

I can't recall how many days we had below zero but it was a stretch of 4 days I think where we did not get above zero at all. Not a single day till the 31st did we get to 32 or warmer either. But the one day of 50's was great to see. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

It actually got colder in January here, but that is only fair because so far our winter had been pretty tame. But today the ice that had come in last week, which had got school canceled for four days, started to melt. I was going into the pharmacy this morning, and right before I stepped inside, two feet in front of me, all of a sudden four large chunks of ice fell off the roof, right in front of me. One after another, big blocks just dropped. If I had been two feet closer, I'm pretty sure it would have killed me. At least it would have split my head open. I'm surprised no one thought about knocking the chunks off. It is a good way to get sued.

We got that on Sunday and it was wonderful! They don't do the side streets here and I didn't want to drive on my street due to all the ice. By 1pm it was melted enough so that I felt good about going out so I did. I'd been stuck here for a week! It's cold again but I'm so glad we had that little thaw. We have 4-5 inches of snow left from the 10 that fell but the sun is shining and it's so much nicer. I'm ready for Spring!

I ha huge puddles at the end of my driveway and ion the driveway as well from the thaw. I did shovel as much water off it as I could to avoid ice puddles. But I still have them anyhow as usual. The city I live in does a great job plowing etc. Not many problems with it unless we get well over a foot at once. I also can't eait to get out into my garden etc this spring. I'll be starting seeds indoors soon too for that. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Hey Grandpa Bob! We had the same crazy azz weather! It got up to 53 degrees here Sunday! It was beautiful! Now it's back down to the 30's and going back down to single digits and snow! This is so weird! Just can't figure out this weather anymore! Then after a few more days it might go back up again! Not really a good thing because people get sick like this! Who knows! Can't do anything about it anyway!

The weather here was fine for January, we had a few cold days and nights, but some of the days were sweater weather, and you could even turn your heater off in the day time. The temps would start dropping around 4ish in the evening. Today it rained and they have snow flurries in the forecast for tomorrow but I don't think it is going to do anything. Today is Groundhog day and they say the ground hog saw his shadow so look for 6 more weeks of cold weather. Yours patio will get its cover of snow back.

Wow that is hot for you guys. Did you have to turn the air conditioner on? heehee I bet you where out in the sun and it felt so good. Did you open up the house and air it out? When it warms up like that I open the house to get fresh air even if it is not super warm. I get the feeling like the house gets to bad of air when it is closed up like that.

We had a really cold one Bob with lots of ice and some snow. The ice was the worst as it was black ice somedays. It got down to about -7 here and boy was it cold. I hate it so much and cannot wait for spring. This week has been a different story. We are snowed under in the UK and Ireland. Aiports are closed LOL, as they are idiots over here. I bet your airports do not close and millions stay off work. Well its February, so I am off topic this week. Take care Bob:)
