My 10 year old daughter has an obsession with collecting soft toys, She used to try and keep all of them on her bed!! She has hundreds and I have managed to get them into the loft for the time being as she had new bedroom furniture for christmas. She is now asking for them back & wants the 7 black bags full from my mothers house.
Is she normal to be so obsessive about something at her age??
Will she grow out of it or will she turn into someone who collects everything??
Am I just worrying for nothing or does/will have an obsessive personality?
Any comments are gratefully received!

I think it is normal for a girl her age to want to collect stuffed animals . But to minimize the clutter tell her she pick her favorite 10 or 20 depending on the size of her room and how many she can display with out it being cluttered . Talk to her about donating the others to a childrens hospital or orphanage . You might try for everyone she keeps she must donate 2. She will make some children , somewhere very happy .

i think she's just at the stage of having still fond of collecting toys, i'm sure she will outgrown to have interest of her toys, maybe she has no options where to invest her time, don't worry she is still a girl and most of kids at her age have the same interest. if you want to divert most of her time to another activity, you could enroll her in workshop, let her play with her playmates, introduce her to different or variety of activity.

I see your point although she dances 3 times a week, member of football club, scouts and attends a creative workshop once a week. Keeps in touch with her school/dance friends by msn as we live in the next town and she has friends in the street along with helping me walk the dog and playing with her sister!!!! Not sure I could taxi her to any other activities. Hence why I think it may be a bit of an obsession:-)

I agree it's normal to collect stuffed animals as I did at that age too. However, I do think she just plain has too too many! You will have to put your foot down and limit how many she is allowed to have at one time or give her a bin she can rotate thru and put the rest away.
You could maybe convince her to pick her favorites out and keep those and remind her she will get more again in time and those that are not her favorites see if you can donate them and tell her you are giving them to little kids who don't have any toys. WIch in a way I think it's a shame that toys for tots ect no longer take used toys otherwise you have to donate them to a thrift shop or perhaps another organization would take them?

I believe that your daughter is very very normal. Just like any other people, she just loves to have her own collections of soft toys. It's very normal to do a collection of things. She will not be too obsessive at her age of 10. It's good that she is learning to collect things and treasure her own things.
Probably she just love the soft toys and may only collect these soft toys. Probably when she grows older, she may have a passion of collecting other things and she will turn into collecting other things instead and leave the soft toys collection alone. Don't worry too much. It's a good thing and not a bad thing at all.
