I was just wondering - how does one's discussion go to the "Today's Top Discussions" section? Is it based on the number of responses received on that day? Or could it be a discussion that's even started yesterday but has accumulated lots of responses? Does anybody know?

Hello zweeb82! It's actually based on the number of responses. I have some top discussions too and I noticed that most of them got many responses.
Even if the discussion was started yesterday, it can still be considered a top discussion if still many members would respond to it.

well, I also thought about that and this is what I noticed..I have a friend who started a discussion and then she has only 5 or 6 responses maybe. I was wondering why it was in today's top discussion when in fact there's few members who responded there. I then realized that even if there's only 6 responses there but some members there have interaction like giving comments and counter comments..did you get my point?

Well, most of the time, it is based on the responses that were received on the day it was posted. At least 10 or more will get you to the top discussions list.
And it seems that a few mylotters are able to always generate that kinda response quantity in almost all of the discussions they started. Till today, I am still trying to figure out what their secret is!

Haha
I'm also trying to figure out what that secret is. I wished that it was entirely true that it's only based on responses as I've seen people with less than 10 responses on that section as well? I guess what the guys mentioned above about unique page views are also taken into account?

Hi there! Am not quite sure if what I may say is right, but I will just share my view about the topic and perhaps it makes sense to you.
You are right that whatever discussion you started on a certain day specifically for that day and had received numbers of responses that makes it fall on the category as "Today's Top". And based on your second premise, a discussion which was started yesterday or even 2 -3 days ago which is continiously receiving quantity of responses fall on the category as "hot"...
That is I think the difference.

if i'm not wrong.
it's based on how fast and many replies you get the moment your discussion gets posted.

Well, I have also wondered what makes a discussion go to the "Today's Top Discussions" section and I have read all the responses people have posted here but I am not sure there is a perfect answer. My discussion has never been included in that section no matter how interesting my discussion was and how many responses it received. I think mylot admin decides it.

I'm not very sure as after I've started this discussion that I found out there was another discussion made about 5 months ago on this topic, just worded differently I guess? But there were only 3 responses & the answers are not really assuring & quite vague actually
