Just boil them in hot water till they are cooked.
You can check this by poking a chopstick into them to test if it can go thru.
Once the potatoes are cooked, peel them. Add a pinch of salt and mash them up with a fork.
Add a splash of milk if you want it a little fluffy.
Then serve.
If you have brown sauce, you can cook up a small batch and serve together with the mashed potatoes. Other wise, a dash of pepper and you have yourself a wonderful mash potato side dish!

If you are short for time microwave the pototes. Cool and peel. Cut into pieces. I add in a bit of butter and seaonings to flavor, and then milk to the consistancy that I want. I also tend to use an electric mixer when whipping mine.

Thanks! If I use an electric mixer, what would the consistency be like?

Depending on the type of potato, you can make the mashed taters with the skins on for added texture. Red potatoes are best for this. Pretty much any that has a smooth and relatively thin skin. The ones that have peels that feel like construction paper (for lack of a better example) aren't very good with their peels left on.
Cut them into equally sized pieces - the smaller the pieces, the faster they will cook. Put the pieces in a pot with cold water and bring it all to a boil. This helps the pieces cook more evenly so you don't have pieces that are soft on the outside and raw on the inside.
When they are "fork tender" (which means you can easily stick a chunk with a fork and pull it out of the water without it crumbling), drain off the water. Add two tablespoons of stock (chicken for poultry dinners, beef for beef, vegetable or fish for fish....etc), half a cup of heavy cream, a tablespoon of sour cream, salt and pepper. I like garlic in mine too. Mash them to your preferred consistency (I like mine lumpy, my mom likes hers more of a smooth pasty texture) and serve.

when cooking mashed potatoes, first I peel them, and then chop it into 4 parts. Boil the chopped potatoes in water with salt (just enough for 2 potatoes) for flavor. Poke the potato to check if its soft. After you drain them. set it aside then make the mixture. Melt 1 table spoon of butter in a non-stick pan, add around 2 table spoons (or more) of all purpose cream, until thick. Pour into potatoes then mash it. You can use fork to mash your potatoes. Add a little bit of ground pepper to taste. While mashing potatoes, you can also add grated cheese and little mayo If you like. You can always make your mashed potato according to your taste.
