The best way to learn about wines is to go out and try them. If you don't live in wine country it's ok because many wine stores and supermarkets offer wine tasting events in-store where you can have the opportunity to sample a couple or as many as a couple dozen wines to "try before you buy." The more you try, the more you learn. The important thing is to remain openminded and sample a wide variety of reds, whites, sparkling, still, dry, sweet and everything in between. No matter what the experts say everything comes down to what you like. There are no real rules for pairing wines with food but certain wines do better compliment certain types of foods and flavorings so the best way to try a wine is both with and without food. Sites like meetup host interest groups where you can find other wine-minded folk to go out tasting with you. You'd be amazed at how much information you can absorb in just a manner of months! That's my take; what do you think?
