Simple Abundance-Soul Food

Oh, I just love Soul Food. This is food that is cooked from the heart. Most people who grew up down south know just what I'm speaking to but it's also found in small corners up north. My typical soul food, especially when living down in Mississippi, was fried chicken (which I admit I can no longer enjoy do a horrible allergy), greens, corn bread from scratch, biscuits, sweet potatoe pie, corn on the cob, and peach cobbler for dessert. There was just something in fixing those items for Sunday dinner that made the rest of week just melt away. Now I just cook a beef or pork roast instead. What is your soul food? Do you still have Sunday dinners? As Sarah writes in her book Simple Abundance, "Soul food is just what the name implies. It is soulfully cooked food or richly flavored food, good for your ever-loving soul"-Shelia Ferguson (July 18th entry)

Oh I so miss fried green tomatoes. I remember once making some for a friend and when I told her about them she thought I was referring to the movie lol. Yeah, it sucks not being able to have chicken. I really do miss it. Thanks for sharing. Anora

wow, this is the first time I hear this word--soul food. yes, as the name implies, it is soaked with our great care and delicate preparation. I guess I never made such food except thta my parents have been cooking soul food for me for so many long years. I love them.

Thank you so much for your response. Yes, it sounds as if your loving parents have been cooking soul food for you, and you are enriched by that. Thank you again for sharing. Namaste-Anora
