Yes, it is true. The following is just an email going around. A letter from a boss to his employees To All My Valued Employees, There have been some rumblings around the office about the future of this company and, more specifically, your job. As you know, the economy has changed for the worse and presents many challenges. However, the good news is this: The economy doesn’t pose a threat to your job. What does threaten your job however, is the changing political landscape in this country. However, let me tell you some little tidbits of fact which might help you decide what is in your best interest. First, while it is easy to spew rhetoric that casts employers against employees, you have to understand that, for every business owner, there is a Back Story. This back story is often neglected and overshadowed by what you see and hear. Sure, you see me park my Mercedes outside. You’ve seen my big home at last year’s Christmas party. I’m sure; all these flashy icons of luxury conjure up some idealized thoughts about my life. However, what you don’t see is the BACK STORY: I started this company 28 years ago. At that time, I lived in a 300 square foot studio apartment for 3 years. My entire living apartment was converted into an office so I could put forth 100% effort into building a company, which by the way, would eventually employ you.. My diet consisted of Ramen Pride noodles because every dollar I saved went back into this company. I drove a rusty Toyota Corolla with a defective transmission. I didn’t have time to date. Often times, I stayed home on weekends, while my friends went out drinking and partying. In fact, I was married to my business - hard work, discipline, and sacrifice. Meanwhile, my friends got jobs. They worked 40 hours a week and made a modest $50K a year and spent every dime they earned. They drove flashy cars and lived in expensive homes and wore fancy designer clothes. Instead of hitting the Nordstrom’s for the latest hot fashion item, I was trolling through the discount store extracting any clothing item that didn’t look like it was birthed in the 70’s. My friends refinanced their mortgages and lived a life of luxury. I, however, did not. I put my time, my money, and my life into a business with a vision that eventually, some day, I too, will be able to afford these luxuries my friends supposedly had. So, while you physically arrive at the office at 9am, mentally check in at about noon, and then leave at 5pm, I don’t. There is no “off” button for me. When you leave the office, you are done and you have a weekend all to yourself.. I unfortunately do not have the freedom. I eat, and breathe this company every minute of the day. There is no rest. There is no weekend. There is no happy hour. Every day this business is attached to my hip like a 1 year old special-needs child. You, of course, only see the fruits of that garden - the nice house, the Mercedes, the vacations... you never realize the Back Story and the sacrifices I’ve made. Now, the economy is falling apart and I, the guy that made all the right decisions and saved his money, have to bail-out all the people who didn’t. The people who overspent their paychecks suddenly feel entitled to the same luxuries that I earned and sacrificed more than a decade of my life for. Yes, business ownership has is benefits but the price I’ve paid is steep and not without wounds. Unfortunately, the cost of running this business, and employing you, is starting to eclipse the threshold of marginal benefit and let me tell you why: I am being taxed to death and the government thinks I don’t pay enough. I have state taxes. Federal taxes. Property taxes. Sales and use taxes. Payroll taxes. Workers compensation taxes. Unemployment taxes. Taxes on taxes. I have to hire a tax man to manage all these taxes and then guess what? I have to pay taxes for employing him. Government mandates and regulations and all the accounting that goes with it, now occupy most of my time. On Oct 15th, I wrote a check to the US Treasury for $288,000 for quarterly taxes. You know what my “stimulus” check was? Zero... Nada. Zilch. The question I have is this: Who is stimulating the economy? Me, the guy who has provided 14 people good paying jobs and serves over 2,200,000 people per year with a flourishing business? Or the single mother, sitting at home pregnant with her fourth child waiting for her next welfare check? Obviously, government feels the latter is the real economic stimulus of this country. The fact is, if I deducted (Read: Stole) 50% of your paycheck you’d quit and you wouldn’t work here. I mean, why should you? That’s nuts. Who wants to get rewarded only 50% of their hard work? Well, I agree, which is why your job is in jeopardy. Here is what many of you don’t understand ... to stimulate the economy you need to stimulate what runs the economy. Had suddenly, the government mandated to me that I didn’t need to pay taxes, guess what? Instead of depositing that $288,000 into the Washington black-hole, I would have spent it, hired more employees, and generated substantial economic growth. My employees would have enjoyed the wealth of that tax cut in the form of promotions and better salaries. But - you can forget it now. When you have a comatose man on the verge of death, you don’t defibrillate and shock his thumb, thinking that will bring him back to life, do you? Or, do you defibrillate his heart? Business is at the heart of America and always has been. To restart it, you must stimulate it, not kill it. Suddenly, the power brokers in Washington believe the poor of America are the essential drivers of the American economic engine. Nothing could be further from the truth; this is the type of change YOU can keep. So where am I going with all this? It’s quite simple. If any new taxes are levied on me, or my company, my reaction will be swift and simple. I’ll fire you. I’ll fire your co-workers. You can then plead with the government to pay for your mortgage, your SUV, and your child’s future. Frankly, it isn’t my problem any more. Then, I will close this company down, move to another country, and retire. You see, I’m done. I’m done with a country that penalizes the productive and gives to the unproductive. My motivation to work, and to provide jobs, will be destroyed and, with it, will be my citizenship. So, if you lose your job, it won’t be at the hands of the economy; it will be at the hands of a political hurricane that swept through this country, steam-rolled the constitution, and will have changed its landscape forever. If that happens, you can find me sitting on a beach, retired, and with no employees to worry about.... Signed, THE BOSS I say that the above is much more true and much more of a prophesy of future events than proponents of the stimulus bill could ever imagine or realize. What do you say?

More taxes..MORE TAXES.. That's every politicians answer. It's just borrowing from Peter to pay off Paul while lining their own pockets along the way.

The current ideas for taxes and stimulus packages prove the Congress thinks we all are not only stupid but also that we do not have memories that last until the next election.

That is scary! It is a prophecy of doom for our country thanks to Pelosi and her gang of incompetents. I finally finished wading through the rest of the stimulus bill and I see now way that that stupid thing can do anything but destroy. It will not be the saving of our country. G'd help us all. Yes, God's help would be helpful. I will ask Him for guidance as to what to do. Right now, all I can think of on my own is to try and convince as many as possible as to the foolishness of this stimulus package and to think of how to help one's self, family, and friends.

It seems we are always undoing damage, never preventing it in the first place. If the idiots had just read the thing, at least those with a functioning brain would have voted against it. Shalom

Thanks for Best Response Red. I feel kind of weird getting rewarded for responding to a subject that has me in such turmoil. The more I read about it and study it, the more angry and disgusted I get. I still cannot see how we could have elected such a bunch of degenerates who could have passed such a bill. Shalom

I agree with you and THE BOSS. I am a small business owner and so am still at the back story part. Luckily my business is small enough I do not employ anybody and when I do, they will be strictly Independent contractors. I think our government should stop penalizing success and rewarding failure. It drains my motivation. I would love to stop and just collect a check for cranking out babies. I love babies. that would be fun for me. But I made the decision to have only one and be responsible and care for her myself. Now I look at it and wonder why.

You have a sense of self respect and worth that will never be experienced, understood, or appreciated by those who count on government to be their BE-ALL and END-ALL in life. It is my observation in life that the self employed are very special people with a deeper understanding of what makes the world go around.

I say this lays it all out quite clearly. It is too bad that the liberals fail to recognize the realities. Their policies are destroying our country, and costing us jobs. This is why socialism has always failed everywhere it has been tried, why the Entitlement Mindset is flawed, and why our economy is in such a mess.

My grandfather once told me a true story of practically this very thing happening in real life when he was a young man.

This is excellent and very true. However, I don't believe that Obama supporters will get it...will understand it. It is the liberal way of thinking that will bring this country down. This person worked hard, but the people who don't get it just see the things or items or opportunities that this person's hard work brought him. They cannot see the hard work that person put in over many years. Most people who can't see it are lazy. Like the woman pregnant with her fourth child on welfare. It is her choices that took her where she is.

Yes, I know what you mean. I use to be a small businessman operating my own truck. The amount of people I encountered who thought this automatically meant I made a lot of money astounded me. The notion that being in business is not license to print money is foreign to some. The notion of being in business, working hard, and losing money is something some think shouldn't happen because it isn't fair. 0bama, can not change this. Some don't realize that! 0bama can not make things fair. Remember when Jimmy Carter caught heck from liberal idealists when he actually told some citizen that life is not always fair and that government can not always try to make something fair? It was a hoot.

hi red...that man is quite remarkable. he deserves what he has earned and it's almost a miracle that he has kept the money he's got. what a shame that he should be rewarded with the grief of over taxing.

Hello Red, Very profound. Unfortunately, it's way too long to keep the attention of the intended audience. My guess is that this will fall on deaf (as well as otherwise occupied) ears. "Uh??? I didn't get the memo that the boss was moving to Costa Rica, and that my last day on the job would be (panic, panic, panic) WHEN????" I tell you in earnest, it has long surprised me that so many worker bees think that employers HAVE to stay in business. Precisely as this letter demonstrates, it is far, far easier for successful business people to tell Obama, Pelosi, and Reid to "SHOVE IT" rather than agree to stay and get kicked in the teeth. When the heck are people going to wake up???

I suppose people will wake up shortly after the government takes over. I've got a pretty good idea of what kind and how tolerant of a boss people like 0bama and his minions will be. Anyone who thinks their current boss is unreasonable ain't seen nothing until the government is in charge.

This may be just an email going around with no one to claim it. But is sure holds lots of truths within. This is happening right now in our country, with the companies being so overly taxed that they are having to lay off workers. I know some of it is brought on by bad management on the parts of some company owners. But workers are being laid off day by day. This stimulus bill is no stimulus to the country at all. My husband just told me that the little stimulus that each person will get will only go to those who are working. And they will be only $13 a week, which comes out to about $8 a week after TAXES! That is not stimuli to the economy at all, considering it won't even buy one good meal at McDonald's for two people! And it will only buy about 2 gallons of milk a week, perhaps!! The government is only putting a bandaid on what is a very flawed problem!

It holds a lot of truth. I especially agree with the part where the writer disagrees with a company that punishes the workers to give to the non-workers. I go out and earn every cent of my paycheck every week. My husband does the same. Yet we see upwards of 30% give or take a few percentage points of our check going to support welfare moms, illegal aliens on government aid and the like. Meanwhile people like my neighbor who works for a company that doesn't provide health benefits can't get health insurance through Medicaid due to people like the "octo-mom" who has 14 children and they are all on public aid. My neighbor needs health insuance, but can't afford $350 a month for the cheapest premium she could find. That plan had a $5,000 deductable also. I've heard many times before that 0bama is totally for the "free healthcare plan" where we pay upwards of 60% in taxes to provide "Free" healthcare like England and Canada. That practice terrifies me. I know I can't live on 60% of what I make a year. I know I am not paying for some pregnant illegal alien to stay at her government funded home, eating her government funded food while watching TV on her government funded utilities and talking on her government funded telephone. I'm not paying for her to have 5 kids in 6 years and then take them all to the ED when one of them "doesn't act right." I have to pay my way. Every person in this country should do the same. But could you imagine the uproar if we all of a sudden told every welfare wh0re in this country that their benefits would be cut off and they'd (GASPING) have to work?

"Could you imagine the uproar if we all of a sudden told every welfare wh0re in this country that their benefits would be cut off and they'd (GASPING) have to work?" I remember well the belly aching from such persons during the Reagan Presidency and when Clinton signed WELFARE REFORM. I'd like to again hear those anguished, plaintive, lamentations accompanied by the converse from taxpayers, as WELFARE was permantly changed to become WORKFARE.
