Ever respond to a discussion and wish you hadn't?

Tired - Some people just have a way of making you tired!

You're here on myLot and start a discussion or your responding to different discussions or checking on what your friends have going on or maybe just updating your profile and you happen across a title to a discussion so you click on it to see what it is about and then you think, "well, I read the discussion so I think I'll rate it and respond", and you do and then you find out it was a really Bad idea! All of a sudden a little response to a discussion turns into an entire book in the life of a person and they keep responding to your responses and then before you know it you are being accused of all kinds of things like attacking the person or only responding because you want a few cents for posting and more...and you just wonder: "whatever possessed me to respond to this person? I didn't even know them, I should have just stuck with what I was doing and not got distracted!". I've had it happen to me a couple of times and let me tell you it is just not worth the time and energy to try to continue to respond to the person as nothing in the World you say can ever be right and they just make you TIRED! Finally I just have to politely respond and tell them that I am finished with the discussion. How about you? Has this ever happened to you? If so what did you do? And if it hasn't happened to you, pretend it did and what would you do?;)

I've had situations somewhat like this happen with me before, yes. There was a certain member that is not here anymore (For now, as I'm sure they'll be back again) and they have been here before some 18 times to date under different usernames each and every time..... I befriended them in the very beginning, as did my Wife and then it all went downhill from there. Each time they come back as a new user, I look at their discussions and think ahhhh what the heck, I'll respond and see if anything's changed and if they'll actually admit to their serial username status this time around. And of course I instantly regret it 'cos that's when the crap starts! Our exchanges continue on and on and on and I don't even get to the stage of politely responding to say we're finished like you do. Eventually they just disappear..... I have to admit though, that there's a little bit of stubborness there on my part because I should just ignore them, but I can't help it! All I have ever wanted is for them to actually admit the truth for once! My own description above isn't quite what you were asking about I'm sure, but I figured I'd share it anyways!

Hi James! I'm glad you did share it! While it isn't exactly what happened to me, it still comes under that category, of "how can I be so stupid"!! :D I am stubborn like you in that I finally just politely bow out, while it is definitely Not in my nature to be That kind, but I only do it because I know this goes out to a LOT of people and I would rather look like the rose than the ignorant fool...and in this case, this person truly did look like a fool as they were accusing me of attacking them and couldn't wait until all of their friends read the post to see what type of person "you really are", blah, blah, blah!! So, having re-read all of that particular post for my own sanity, I found that I had done nothing except agree with them and kept wishing them luck etc. and there was No Way Anyone that was half way sane could possibly take what I said as an attack! So I figured when I bowed out because the discussion was getting childish and a waste of "both" of our time, they stopped and they look like a complete idiot on the discussion with no way to delete it!! And in my own way, Revenge was definitely very sweet indeed!! But now in your instance, I know you want them to admit the truth, which they probably will not and I am pretty sure they are also not going to change their evil ways!!!! So you must Really be a Glutton for Punishment to keep going back!!! :D :D!! Thanks for responding, I really enjoyed your story and Good Luck to You!! ;)

Actually it did happen to me before as you described, but i am more than happy to comment several times over my friend responses; if i have got nothing to say after several comments to the same discussion, i just stop drop by that particular discussion topic of mine because i have nothing else to add to it, or i will just told my friend i want to end this topic and thank him or her for the understanding. It is really not a big deal to me at all since i believe majority of my friends are reasonable and smart members in mylot.

On this last one I had, (does not happen very often), I finally just said that it was beginning to be childish and a waste of both of our time and that was it...the person never wrote back again so I guess they finally got the message. Now on my "friends" list I never have that problem, this just happen to be a link I came across somewhere while I was going somewhere else so I didn't know the person I just happened to respond...to my dismay!! Thanks for responding! ;)
