Why I Came Back to Mylot.

I have always considered myself a well read person where politics is concerned. Politics is to me what The Green Bay Packers is to most the people living around me here in Wisconsin. The forces that drive my life are God, Family, Country and music... in that order. They aren't the only things important to me, but everything that is important to me can pretty much be put into one or a combination of these "categories". I enjoy a good, heated argument about politics. The most enjoyable is with people who see things differently than I do. Yes, it's fun and reassuring to talk politics with people on my side of the issues, but I find it doesn't stay fun very long. After the initial volleys of "hey, me too!" Where do you go from there? Usually on to other topics, or to my guitar room to jam with me. But I admit that I have come to a place in my life where I am at a loss. I came back to hopefully be enlightened by the Mylotters I've known and loved as well as those I have yet to meet. So, what would this basically conservative political junky need to learn from you? I admit, I don't understand a few things.... 1) Opponents of Prs. Bush considered him a war criminal for not extending Constitutional rights to the Detainees at GITMO and other facilities, yet Prs. Obama announced that Detainees taken in Afghanistan don't have Constitutional rights.. but that doesn't seem to matter. 2) Democrats and Liberals claim that they are about freedom of choice, yet the word "choice" only seems to apply to abortion and musical preference. Prs. Obama and King Doyle (governor of Wisconsin) are pushing through legislation that would force people to join Unions if they want to work, and only hire union members... oh, I'm sorry, the wording here in Wisconsin isn't "union members", but "have collective bargaining rights".. I guess part of this question would be "what's the difference, other than spelling?" Very little about Obama's plan has anything to do with choice, but a lot to do with compliance by force. So help me understand why force is so important to Liberalism and the Obama agenda. 3) Please help me understand how it was vile and corrupt of Prs. Bush to bring his "cronies" to Washington when he was elected, yet it's laudable for Prs. Obama to do the same thing? Especially considering the fact that so many of Obama's cronnies somehow "didn't know" they were supposed to pay there taxes (no matter how many times they were caught at it before). Either Obama hasn't been vetting his friends very well, or he just doesn't care. Either way, it seems the only reason being a tax cheat is a crime in Obama's eyes is if you can't scrape together enough to "pay it off". 4) I don't understand how the Boards of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were so vile and corrupt, but not Rahm Emanuel... he's as clean and prestine as the water downstream from an ethanol plant. 5) I don't understand why it was so important to push the "Stimulant" Package through so quickly that no one could debate or discuss it, even though Prs. Obama was going to be in Hawaii for 4 days after Congress passed it anyway. 6) I don't understand why Congress felt that it was of the utmost importance to investigate Sen. McCain's eligibility to run for president, but somehow Prs. Obama not only wasn't investigated, it is considered outrageous to even ask about his. Outrageous enough for gag orders and job losses. Mind you, I'm not saying I think he's ineligible, so let's not get dragged into that hole in the ground. I just wonder why McCain had to be investigated, but Obama was given a pass. 7) I want to understand why "the Rich" are demonized by The Obama administration... unless they happen to be "His" rich. 8) I want to understand how was outrageous for the CEOs of "The Big Three" to employ the services of pilots and aircrews to fly to Washington DC, but it was perfectly wonderful for Prs. Obama to burn through 6900 gallons of jet fuel in Air Force 1 (not to mention the entourage of follow on aircraft) just so he could sign a bill in Denver that could just as easily been signed in his overheated Oval Office? (I wonder how many people know that the C-130 that transports his limo and other vehicles costs over $10,000 an hour to fly?). There are others, but I think this should do for now. I would truly love to hear from Obama supporters who had a white hot hatred for Bush (especially in the matters where Obama and Bush seem to have a meeting of the minds). I'd also like to hear from those who do oppose Obama and/or his policies. I sit in the classroom of Mylot, #2 pencil and college ruled notepaper at the ready.

I'm not sure what I can add. Some of those reasons are why I'm becoming increasingly doubtful that Obama is actually the President we need. ...I don't doubt his eligibility, for example, I'm not sure on the "forcing people to join unions" thing...but the rest... (1. The fact that hardly anyone had any idea what was in the stimulus package by time it passed bothers me. The fact that things that were good getting taken out and that that was useless and bad getting stuck in, also bothers me...though that's not really Obama's doing but all our politicians' pulling shenangins. (2. Hints of his policies looking like they may want to FORCE people into things, like that health care thing requiring doctors who don't cooperate with the patient database thing and saying they could face "Severe" penalties if they don't...compiling everyone's health information in a government or public database doesn't strike me as wonderful either. (3. His mixed feelings on what's right in terms of national security, detainees. He shouldn't say one thing's wrong and then go and endorse or IGNORE something similiar. ...like him letting the memos from the last Administration be released and then go around and prevent an actual investigation based on what those memos said. MIND you, I was never an Obama supporter to begin with. But more and more I wonder if he really is just a mixed bag of treats and poisons, or if he's just a bad guy pretending to be a good one. I wish I knew what to think. It's only been a little over a month, but considering how quickly (and I wouldn't WANT him to move slowly) he's been doing things...it's been more than enough to think about. I was always neutral on the idea of stimulus packages. On one hand, they put money directly in the hands of people (or, they do usually), but on the other...it increases the amount of debt and money printed or borrowed. It's the bailouts I flat out opposed. What annoys ME is how dems who opposed similiar things under Bush now apporve of it under Obama and how Repubs who approved of things under Bush now oppose it under Obama. I HATE that. PARTIES aren't worth a dang...it's like they don't care about us at all (which we knew, but for them to be so OBVIOUS about it is insulting).

P.s. wow, Para. NO ONE has responded to this discussion in four hours? Is everyone suddenly afraid of you now? O_O *pokes them* How odd.

Ted, Sorry but I really don't think you will get any "answers" to our questions from the O'Bama supporters here. They for some reason all wear rose colored glasses, and are living in "Strawberry Fields" Please don't get me wrong, I think all should be allowed to express their opinions, the thing is; none of O'Bamas supporters seem to have one of their own, the opinions are all O'Bamas. None of his cabinet members will go up against anything he says, because as you said in the discussion, they are criminals, who would never have been allowed to serve in the White house, under any other administration. So they will follow him down the yellow brick road until the very end, picking up his crumbs as they go, because when this administration is over, there will be no way back. Am I being a pessimist? You bet your bottom dollar, well you may as well bet them all because by the time O'Bama is done with spending, you won't have any left to use anywhere else. I will stop there, before I get myself dug in any deeper. Good luck on your quest for answers Ted, I wish you luck, because you will need all you can get, to get them. Blessings Marilyn

Well ted, I held off responding here to see if any supporters of the current administration and congress would address your issues. Hmmmmm. nope, guess not. I really don't have anything to add or say, everyone here knows how I feel. I could launch in to my usual constitutionaldiatrab but what's the point? People just don't care. The country is an abomination to everything it's founders held sacred and no one cares. I point out words written by my state's and my country's founders and written rights they guaranteed to us and I get called irational. sigh. I'm headed to the woods as soon as my nest is empty, my youngest daughter graduates this june. Let the country fall to ashes, I'll be living in my own. Maybe once things hit bottom, our children can rebuild this again in the way our founders intended. As for the willfully ignorant masses who refused to listen or care, I sincerely hope you will still be around and alive for me to tell you I told you so.
