Putting out napkins at mealtime

I have a napkin holder on our dining room table. However, I don't always put napkins out next to our plates when we eat a meal. Usually if we need one we just grab one. I remember growing up my mom would always put out napkins next to our plate when she set the table. Do you put napkins out every time you have a meal?

Funny how we feel like we have to put them out for company.

Looks like I'm the odd woman out. Yes I do put out napkins at our meals. Actually I fold a paper towel to use as a napkin.

We use the paper towels when we run out of napkins.

I don't normally put them right next to the plate, but I will put them on the table. If it is something that is going to be fairly messy I will hand the kids a paper towel when I hand them their plate to take to the table.

Hi Shar19... Yes we put napkin on our dining table during dinner time but its not next to our plate. We have this napkin holder for napkin role that we are using. We can just grab one sheet if we need to use but we are all adults so i guess we dont need so much wiping and all aside from the fact that we are not used of using such during daily mealtime back in the Philippines.

The only time I put out napkins is at Thanksgiving or when we are having something that could be messy to eat, like pizza or sloppy joes etc.

I don't even buy napkins! It's a waste of money. Really whats the point? You wash your hands before the meal and you wash them after. Why buy something you are just going to use once and throw away? It's a waste of trees too.

I actually think I use my napkins more for spills and messes than for our hands or faces.

napkins - we place our napkins on another table in the living room instead of on the dining table
Hello Shar. We place our napkins on the glass table in the living room instead of on the dining table. If any one needs to use it, he or she will leave for the living room for one piece or more. Besides, our living room and dining room is just next to each other, which offers us convenience.

I use paper towels. And I have a napkin holder, but it is for looks mainly. It matches my kitchen cannister set I inherited from my Grandmother.

My honey always yells at me because I never buy napkins unless he reminds me, so most of the time we wipe our hands on dishrags. HaHa he doesn't think it's funny but I do.

No I don't put them out with the plates unless I am serving a nice dinner or have guest over or something. For us we just grab on of we need it. If I'm preparing a nice dinner I will fold them nicely and place them by the plate but otherwise you're on your own!

We don't have a napkin holder at home, and if we do, we are not so formal to use it too. My hubby is not so fuzzy about things like that. But if i do buy some day, i would like to use it during special occasions only.

Well since I just cook for me, I just grab a napkin. When i was a kid during the week days we would just grab one when we needed one, but on Sundays my mom always set the table and we ate on "real plates"(we did plastic during the week). We would lite candles that were in the center of the table surrounded by flowers my dad would bring in from our garden(thoses were the days!!!) When and if God blessess me with a family, I will follow this tradition.
