Could these cause fits?

Many of us have grumbled about the irritating adverts/commercials that beep and flash at us as we sit here sharing our thoughts with the global community. In the UK, on TV, if there is ever any flash photography being shown, or bright spinning lights, we receive a health warning. Personally I find the flashing of some of these adverts quite painful and tend not to look at the screen for long when one appears. If I were susceptible to fits, could these adverts trigger one? If so, shouldn't there be an internet advertising watchdog to monitor such things and persuade advertisers and site owners that they run the risk of injuring their audience and, in these litigious times, open themselves up for legal repercussions?

It has been proven that people have seizures from video games...so it seems to me that the same could possibly occur from these irritating adverts. I have seen some I might be interested in, but when they flash I just keep on going. I refuse to support these irritating adverts. Maybe if we ignore them enough, they'll get the message!!!

I understood that. I was just pointing out that if EVERYBODY would ignore them, maybe they would just go away due to being ineffective!!! A friend of mine pointed out that if you hit the ESC key most of them will quit flashing. I think it is the ones at the top that quit, not the ones on the side. I've become very effective at ignoring the flashing...It's the ones that make a noise that get on my last nerve!!!

I understood that too. I didn't know about the ESC key. I must try it. Thank you for the tip. Yes the beeping ones drive me mad too. I keep my headphones plugged in so at least I don't have them booming away at me when I'm trying to do stuff. If I used measlies I'd be using that one too!

Oh good. I hate to be politically correct. Having spent a lifetime it seems kow towing to stupid and nonsensical dik tats I am very happy now to be regressing to a time when committee were overseen by Chairmen, the vertically challenged were short/tall, disabled could be handicapped and ebony people could be what they call themselves - black! That's probably upset half the myLot community now.

Now that is a very interesting and worrying thought p1ke darling and one I hadn't thought of before! You would think , once it is pointed out to you , that there must be a chance of that happening , if it can happen on the tv why not the computer screen! I would love to find out the facts behind this - yoiu have me intrigued now! xxxx

Hi p1key,
Most of the time I am mylotting while the tv is on and I do hate adverts and d all that noise, never mind about the flashes, I normally turn the sound to mute and only look up when it finish, then I go back to watching whatever is is on and still carry on mylotting, but I am sure these lights do cause some fits, its horrible. Hugs.

Likely. I certainly wouldn't be surprized. They say that even flourescent lights can cause epileptic seizures in some people, too.
I just scroll down to the actual discussion immediately upon getting to the mylot page and I have my sound off so I am not distracted nor annoyed.

Being epeiletic myself and having experioenced a few fits, fklashing lights only tends to really effect you if you are sat in a dark room, if the lights are on then the flashing lights arent too bad. Though if the flashing does cause discomfort to your eyes it could lead to a fit. Who do you complain to on the internet if you see something such as flashing lights in the adverts??
There should be someone like as you say internet advertyising watchdog to moniter these adverts!!
