Black opossum

I've seen enough possums to know what color they are. But one of the dogs brought something black into the yard. My first thought was SKUNK!! It was all black with a bit of white. But it wasn't. It was a 'dead' black bodied possum, with a bit of white on the nose and near the tail. Of course, the dog had fits when it walked away after we left it alone. Poor mutt. Can't even blame this on smog. We live deep in the country, no factories close. So it's not color evolving to blend in. Have you ever seen a black possum? Have you seen any odd colored animals ever? Like you know deer are brown, but you see one that's more reddish or something?

Deer Photo - image of a deer I took
Well I live in the city so not much chance of seeing any kind of possum... lol..before I answered this thought I looked up about possums in general and they can range from grey to black in color As far as other animals with "odd" coloration. I just recently saw a photo of pure white deer...don't know if they were albinos or not I have a photo of a deer I took ages ago, and it was more reddish-brown than brown

Oh I know first hand though about raccoons. Some years ago, it was very late at night. I heard this really strange sound outside my window. My jaw dropped as I saw two, not one, but two raccoons climbing about in the tree out front...like huh? First and last time I ever saw that in all the years I've lived here

I wouldn't say that too loud. Possums and racoons know to avoid humans in the city, so they only come out at night there. But they are both in the cities, they just aren't seen. Except for the trail of trouble that's usually blamed on stray dogs and cats. Like knocked over trash cans and so on. You'd be surprised how many are in towns and cities. They adapt almost as well as cockroaches!

That's unusual my friend. Is there a black species of possum, or do you think it could be a cross between possum and skunk? I have seen some reddish coloured deer but then there are different species here. I think they're Roe Deer. I really can't think of any strange coloured animals I've seen, apart from a black rabbit in the wild, which I would assume was an escaped pet! lol. Brightest Blessings my friend.

I wouldn't have thought that skunks and possums could breed, but I've seen some weird breedings that I wouldn't have believed anyways!! It didn't look any different from a regular possum, and I've seen far too many of them. Except the fur color and texture. Their fur is coarse, normally. This one was rather soft, and that is definitely odd!

Sounds more like cats' fur.
