Ready For Seedlings - Got these recently. Still a little early for Minnesota. But not far off.

Well at the store Sunday I bought my seeds and seed starter pots for some of my gardening. Attatched is a photo of these items. I bought, cucumebrs, zuchinni, green beans, yellow beans, sweet banana peppers, and cauliflower. This is just the start for my garden. Most other things I plant outdoors after threat of frost passes. These all start as seedlings. Still have to get some tomato seeds as well. Do you start things indoors for your garden as well? When do you plant outdoors? Most time I get things in the ground mid to late May at the earliest due to the frost etc here in Minnesota. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I usually plant outdoors and don't start from seed since we are in the south. However, I saved some seed from a huge and great tasting bell pepper last year. I have started one pot of these this past weekend. Spring must be in the air, huh? I'll do another pot in a week or two to stagger the growth to where I won't have tons of ripe bell peppers all at once! Have a great day!

The luck of the South so to say huh? I am lucky to get my ground dug, tilled, and or turned by the end of May most years. But I have been known to kill a few things by planting outdoors in April. HAHAHAHA! I've various other seeds to buy yet as well including bell peppers, sweet corn, and maybe some acorn squash this year. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I am excited to plant this year. I have lots of room and don't have to worry about kids coming in the yard since we moved. I do have to worry about all the wildlife though! I may end up feeding the wild. We will see!

I wish I had a yard so I was able to plant flowers and vegetables. I miss doing that with my dad. Hes gotten older now and cant do it. Even if I go over to get it started I would be able to go over and maintain it. And unfortunetly I dont think he wants to be botherered with it anymore. :(

My yards are really quite large and I plant a lot. Besides all the veggies I also have red rasberry bushes, grapes, apples, strawberries, meint, and a lot of various flowers all over the front yard and a bunch out back as well. I would miss gardening a lot. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I am happy to report that my roma seeds have sprouted. All of the baby tomatoe plants look healthy and well. They are coming up strong and hearty. I am very happy that my teracota pot has provided them with a great start. Next is moving them to their permanent pot homes. lol A gardners work is never done lol

You know me AGB I have no such thing as a green thumb - the opposite is true of me. I keep saying I am going to plant more and do .....but then I kill them all off so this year I am going to give them a break and not even try! Can't wait to see all the pictures of all your lovely produce - they always make my mouth water! xxx

I promise I will next year but I just feel the plants never did me any harm so this year I'll give them a break! Hopefully the other half and Niamh will get on to the potatoes and carrots though! xxx

Hi GRANDPA BOB, I haven't started my tomato plant yet and I can't grow anything else as my garden is so small and mostly concrete so I have to grow just tomatoes like last year but I will be doing it again as I had lovely ones last year and I shall get the seeds from the tomato itself rather then going out and buying the seeds. I will also start getting my plants started shortly, and like you i usually don't start planting out side until around may. and the things that i do not get started inside i usually get at the flea market. I am so glad that it is almost time to get started again, it is one of my favorite things to do, and i love eating all those fresh vegetables, and i think this year along our fence line i am going to start some blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry, plants so i can have them every year.

These seeds are from American Seed CO. Walmart sells them early in the year around this time. Being each pack is just 20 cents, they sell out fast so I try to get them early as possible. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I almost bought some seeds too today, but I want bush green beans and they didn't have them. I will buy some seeds and also some plants that are already started. I have cats and no place that I could start the plants without them getting into them. They like to get in some of my big plants, they killed my aloe vera plant by laying on it. Its fun to them, they think the big pot of dirt is for them to lay in and play with. Its getting that time of year, I love seeing the stores getting ready for spring.

Ooooh, a delicious kitchen garden sounds wonderful, my friend. I like to grow herbs, as there's not much room for all the vegetables and stuff, but I have three friends in the village who always insist on giving me their produce so that's quite nice. Nothing tastes better than home-grown veg and salads. Brightest Blessings.

Indoor herb gardens are great as well. They take very little space as well. Give it a try. They sell kits for herbs indoor growing. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Very rare to get spring frost down here and when we have had gardens in the past we didn't have to have start plants in the house. My son would just get the ground ready and go get the plants and or seeds and put them in the ground. I bet you are really getting excited.

Spring??? Where??? I am looking out the window...it has been snowing since 5:17 a.m....and it is -3 Celcius, right now! Yesterday, I was out in short sleeves, enjoying 11 Celcius (52 F) and getting the gardens turned over...and dreams of tomatoes, peppers, zucchini...and squashes dancing in my head! I have them all started (incl. cukes) and usually we can plant by the end of March, middle of April! I have lived here for 30 years...and NEVER seen a winter like this, that just WON'T quit! So the garden, right now...is just a figment of my imagination! I always start nightshade family plants indoors, as here, they need a longer growing season, than what we normally have! And all I grow are seeds from plants of the previous season! I am wondering if your growing season is longer than ours! Well, Grandpa Bob...know that there are a lot of us envious! Cheers!

Been the same here in Minnesota. It's been in the 40s for a few days now snow is on the horizon as well. In 1991 on Halloween day we got 48 inches of snow in a 24 hour period. Worst storm since the early 1900's for Minnesota. The city was shut down a few days from that storm. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Hi Grandpa Bob! I really don't start planting indoors. I guess having only two seasons here in our country which are wet and dry, we can always start planting outdoors. However, it is better that we start planting during the rainy season with regards to other kind of plants. And there some plants that we can plant anytime of the year. take care and have a great day! lovelots...faith

Hey Grandpa Bob! I am so jealous of hearing you talk about starting your garden again! I so wish that I could have a garden! Is there anything that would grow totally inside an apartment? I really want to grow something so badly! I want to have fresh veggies too! The soil outside my apartment is so bad! Even if I did plant something it would never live! We can't even grow grass here! Is there any type of veggie that is hearty enough to grow inside? Please help me!

Potted spices and herbs work great in an apartment. Things like chives, oregeno etc. Always nice to have fresh herbs to pick and chop up for a recipe. Tomatoes can grow indoors but they need a LOT of sunshine. I had lousy soil outside as well. Takes a bit of work digging up the area and adding new dirt and manure and nutrients. But now my garden beds are so good to me. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

This will be my first year attempting a garden. I am waiting on some lettuce and tomato seeds that I got for free. I will probably plant them indoors as soon as I get them. We also have some seeds we ordered through a fundraiser. They should be here towards the end of the month. I can't remember what we got but I know there was some herbs in there. We use herbs a lot in cooking so it will be great to grow our own......if I don't end up killing them. LOL

Yeah, we bought some mini "greenhouse" starter boxes for all our seeds that need to be started early for mid-may planting. We just sewed them yesterday in fact. A whole bunch of tomatos, peppers, onions, some flowers, eggplant, and a few other assorted things. We need three more greenhouse boxes but it's a decent start for us. Many of the things will be well-grown by time mid-may...which'd mean we'd have to take them out of the starter box and put them in a pot, making room for more seeds in the starter boxes. Before we got the boxes, we started growing greens (lettuces, etc) and herbs (dandelions, chives, etc)...while it was still winter. Some things we'll be planting in April. But that's mostly the studier plants that don't mind the risk of another frost (which is only really gone here by mid-May).

Most of our seeds and plants have already been purchased, and yeah, nearly everything's been well started indoors for weeks now =) Outdoors? After May fifteenth, after frost is gaurenteed to be gone. Sucks, I know...that's the last month of spring, but such is life in the northern states where weather likes spiting the weathermen.

I think that the idea of starting to garden this early is too soon. I live in Virginia and even we had like 8 inches of snow last week. I think I will be waiting until later on in the season to do some gardening and will plant as appropriate. Good Luck with yours though, Bob!

You make me wish I was still out in my old house in the country and I was physically well enough to do some gardening. I like this condo in town and do the small flower beds but there is not enough room or sun to grow vegetables. There is not enough sun here either because of the trees to grow plants indoors.
