Once again threatened with damnation and hellfire ...

There was absolutely no discussion. This person hands me a pamphlet with absolutely no discussion, basically stating that even if I'm a good person, if I don't accept Jesus as my personal savior, I'm going to spend eternity tortured by this cosmic boogey man ...
It is no wonder there are some people saying the world would be better off without Christianity as well as Islam.
I will let someone else handle Islam since I have never practiced it, though I hear it is also a message of peace.
Why are some people making this the introduction to Christianity? It is so much more than "Believe in me or I'm going to torture you for the rest of eternity." - How many people will respond favorably to such a violent message?
Does God love me or not? Why threaten me with the consequences of not believing; what are the consequences of believing, besides I will allegedly be happier when I die? Why all the emphasis on the afterlife; you think there is no happiness possible in this life? Just do as whatever church says or go to hell?
I followed that path long ago, and I walked away from it over 30 years ago.
I am following a message of love, and how to live my life in this life, not in the hereafter. That is the message that I would rather hear.

What I will always say is that I rather go yo hell if the Only way I can get to heaven is by lying to get in . Because it would be a lie for me to say that I want Jesus as my personal savior. The price is too high, To be a true christian , I have to love my enemies and I will Never do that. So whenever people say I am going to hell because I am not a Christian , I say thank you. Because their version of heaven would be a lonely place for me. Everyone following this teacher and I don't want even be in the class. Plus if heaven is for Only Christians , I reallt don't want to go. I love the shock that comes when I say thank you.

What is really sad is that these people actuallt think that fear will make a person believe in what they believe, They are making Christianity sound like a cult, Isn't it true that in a cult Everybody Has to follow everything to the letter or they are out? And by being out of the cultm you go to a hell?

that is probably why these people who talk about redemption and appear out of the blue are just found anywhere. i mean if what they're doing is noble they should be in tune with what people see as a respectable way of getting religious messges across. not only do these "preachers" look funny, they risk losing their faces, their credibility, tarninshing whatever belief it is they're preaching and losing any membership or financial contributions they were hoping for.

Most of us are struggling through life on Earth, hell may seem to be a nicer place. Without constantly worry about bills, mortgages, and job security, hell does seem to be a happier place.
I dont believe in hell fire or whatever eternity tortured theory. According to the Bible, God didn't even say that Adam and Eve would suffer in hell forever for eating the apple. Why should any of us get a harsher punishment than them?
