WEIGHT FLUCTUATION: When it's abnormal

How much does your weight fluctuate in a few days? I understand that it is normal for our weight to fluctuate 3-4% on a daily basis. That water content of foods has a huge bearing on this fluctuation. I know not to weigh myself daily and usually don't. The problem is this: The other day I weighed myself and found that I was back up 30 pounds. I have no idea how this happened but was eating more carbohydrates than the week before. I kept tabs on my weight. I was still up there yesterday. I even weighed myself again on my Moms scale and was the same as when I weighed myself at home. This morning I weighed myself again, just to see and suddenly I am down that thirty pounds from yesterday. Can anyone provide some insight? That is a 30 pound fluctuation in one day! I have no known health problems and remain active daily. The scale I use is digital and to my knowledge is accurate with fully functioning battery. My Moms scale is the same as mine. Today I will stop by my Mom's and weigh myself on her scale to double check. Give or take a few pounds depending on what I have for breakfast. Usually I weight myself first thing in the morning after I go to the washroom and before I eat or drink anything. Has anyone else had this sort of weight fluctuation? I am thinking I may need to head to the doctor to draw some blood to take some tests for particularly thyroid perhaps. Beside being a bit tired lately, I am not experiencing anything else physically that I would consider unusual. I appreciate all input and sharing of personal experiences regarding weight fluctuation. Thanks in advance.

That fluctuation is not normal heck on your mother's scale and then if it reads the same oas yours thne please head to the doctor. I don't think a thyroid problem would account for so much of a fluctuation either. This is really wierd. Let us know what is happening to you, please. Blessings

It is a strange and frightening to read this on the scale(s). Thank you for the comment on Thyroid. I was alarmed to say the least. You will probably not believe this and possibly wonder about my initial post but not even two months ago my sister and I were weighing ourselves, on my scale. It is digital called The Counselor. It has never failed me. My sisters weight appeared normal to her as well, considering her last weigh in on her own scale. I had been on the low carbohydrate diet for about the last month and all was reading what I considered normal. It was just last week that this fluctuation began to appear. I had weighed myself on my Moms scale about 1.5 months ago as well and was equivilant to the reading I was getting on my own scale. This is what happened in the last two days. I weighed myself on my scale. All was good. I weighed myself on my Moms scale and was the same. Then I weighed myself again on my scale the next day. This is where I found the 30 lb drop. Immediately yesterday, I dropped my pup off at my Moms, enroute to the doctor. Since my Mom is a nurse I told her what had happened and she claimed it is impossible. I weighed myself on her scale again and to my surprise it read the weight I was the day before. I got on my scale this morning and it gave me a reading of 20 pounds less. I weighed again and it read 30 pounds less. The conclusion is that the battery in my scale must need changing. My Mom suggested that sometimes the spring in these scales can break. The scale is still brand new. I have had it awhile but barely ever used it. I am going to change the battery and see what happens. In the meantime, I am going to watch my weight, weekly on my Moms scale in addition to my own. Maybe I should just get a new scale. I didn't bother heading to the doctors afterall because obviously my scale is giving me a way false reading.

I am so happy that it is a false reading. I too would have been scared. Thank God that all is well. Blessings
