I want to upgrade to a 1.8ghz processor on my Asus P3V4X motherboard but am unsure if I can actually do that. All input is appreciated. I have no idea even where to start. Currently I am running a Intel Pentium III processor, if that makes any difference.

Go to Asus... and look for your motherboard. Once you find it... you will be able to download the manual for it. The manual shoud give you all the specifications of what you can upgrade your computer with. You might also need to upgrade your Bios in order to upgrade your processor. Which is a bit tricky if you are inexperience.

From memory... I don't think you can upgrade a Pentium III to 1.8Ghz. I think you are limited to about 1Ghz And keeping in mind that the Pentium III is 10 years old. You are well overdue for a Pentium IV. lol

I Know, unfortunately I can only go as high as 1ghz and am over due. Looking into another box now :( (another learning process) I was online until 3 a.m. checking this out since my cable package is short a few channels when it comes to this deep of technical know how. I do have a techie that I call on to do this sort of "building" and he did build the P3 for me years ago. Was simply trying to spare him until I knew more. I really enjoyed the Old P3. It is an awesome board. I may just keep it and use to just bang around on since it has the old win98 still and old programs that wont run on XP or Vista. The P3 doesn't go online :0 Yes I understand about upgrading the Bios, thank you so much for sharing your expertise. I really appreciate it! I am excited for new toys now :D

Ok so you want to upgrade to new processor but first If you have manual of motherboard with box in your home then it will help you to decide which processor it supports but If you don't have it then search it in Asus website and see the manual on that site and see is there any higher processor support then INTEL Pentiuam III.
