Disposal of Desktop computers..

Are there any useful parts or components in the Desktop computers (both monitor and the CPU) that can be removed and used in some other system, while disposing it, as the technician totally rejected the desktop of my friend.Any idea?

If it is old then I remove the hard drive as that is useful in transferring over the old data and you don't want that going to the tip in working condition.
Keep a 1.44Mb floppy drive as well as new pc's are not being fitted with them and you will then be able to read your old discs.
I strip them down for spares but two or three pc's will give enough spares for a long time.
