I have had a ipod shuffle 1st generation for a while that I take to work out at the gym. Today, I downloaded the new version of itunes and plugged in my ipod shuffle to sync in a couple new songs. Now when I try to listen to it, it won't work. I know that I didn't mess it up in anyway. Is it a possibility that the new version of itunes is not compatible with the old ipod shuffle because of the changes and advancements in technology which has caused this problem?

Before worrying about that, you should definitely check out the "Support" page Apple has for their shuffles. For some reason, shuffles have a lot of problems. You might just need to reset/restore it, and you can figure out how to do so on the following page: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/shuffle2gen/ (obviously not a ref. link) This has helped me through a lot of the issues I've had with my shuffle, and hopefully it will work for you too! Good luck!
