One Billion Acidophilus! How does it help your digestive system?

I am curious to what the Acidophilus can do good to your system. I have no issue going number 2 (sorry) as I am very regular but I do have issue with acid reflux. They said if you have acid reflux it is causing that you dont have enough acid or you dont have enough friendly organism in your system. Is Taking Acidophilus help ease up your acid reflux or GERD? I dont know if it is acid reflux or GERD. My Doctor prescribed me with protonix few months ago and that medicine doesn't help at all. Also, I have this protruding upper stomach right below my rib cage. My question is, Can a Doctor diagnosed you with GERD or Acid Reflux without testing thru your blood or something? I need a Doctor that will check my upper stomach going thru blood test or whatever they need to do to make sure there is not much going on there other than acid reflux. I always have this feelings of tightness in my upper stomach. When I poke my upper stomach it is kinda feel hard like rock. I started noticing it right few months ago but stupid Doctor give me protonix going by what I said. I believe Doctor should give their patient further test before prescribing them a prescription. What you all guys think? Do I need to change Doctor?
