Gromet op

Well my son has now got his date for going in for his gromet operation and it got me thinking... a lot. I had my first operation when I was about 7 years old. I had a squint in both of my eyes and went into hospital to have an operation to have them corrected. I was next in hospital to have my tonsils removed when I was 21. The last 3 times I was in hospital was for much more happier occasions, having my babies though I had no operations at that time, thankfully. What operations have you undergone?

Hi Humbug, once again I find it hard to remember what and how many operations I have had, one I had my tonsils and adenoids out, a catheterisation which is a camera that looked at my heart as I have a hole in there, a hysterectomy and there have been others but they are the ones that come to mind at the moment...hugs littleowl

Well I had tubes put in my ears several times before the age of 5. I had my tonsils and adenoids removed when I was 5. I had a csection delivery of my daughter when I was 19. That is all.

hi humbug, what is "gromet?" sorry i had to ask. i looked it up in the online dictionary but there was nothing. anyway, i had a hernia repair when i was in middle school. i also had a wisdom tooth removed a few years ago. does that count as an operation?

I believe that he is having "tubes" in his ears. Gromet is the word they use in the UK.

Hi ya aidenw Rocket is quite correct, it is a small tube put in the ear to help the liquids in the ear to drain properly. Thanks for your response Thanks rocket for the explanation

I had a small mole removed on my leg a couple of years ago in my doctor's office. But other than that, I've never had any surgeries. Sadly, our first child was stillborn but even then, I delivered without a c-section. Then my other kids were born without one too. So I have spent time in the hospital but did not have any surgeries. But... who knows what life will bring?

I've led a very sheltered life. What's a gromet? I hope that it is nothing serious. Remember to disinfect the place thoroughly yourself (use wipes) and don't let he cleaning staff see you. wipe down bed etc with the strongest wipes possible and anything that he will touch. Insist thaT THE DOCTORS WASH HANDS BEFORE TOUCHING YOUR SON. h HAVE HEARD SOME HORRIFIC STORIES FRO FRINEDS AND FAMILY IN THE u.k. OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS. Yes, I camn see that I went into capitals but today, I am not changing it and retyping. Feel tired today. Have a great day.

Hi ya cynthiann Thankfully he will only be a day patient and my mum is coming up from Cornwall to look after my other two kids so that I can give my middle one the attention he needs. A gromet is like a little tube they put in the ear to help drain fluids so he will be able to hear properly. I don't mind that you have typed half in capitals, it really doesn't matter, I can understand you all the same. Now, if you had started typing in a different language then there might have been a bit of a problem. I hope you are well rested now! Thanks cynth

I am so happy that it is not a serious operation. Am also fglad that your mother will be there with you. This is the time when we need family or close friends. years ago when my second son, Stefa, was about 1 year and had to have a hernia operation. Whilst they were operating I went around the back of the hospital and started crying- loudly. After the operation the doctor said that I had quite put him off when he was operating as I was bawling right outside the operating theatre! One love.
