does anyone keep a medical book or chart on there kids like when they go to the drs or have tests done or any thing medical , that way if you go to a new hospital or dr you have things ready so you dont have to try to remember everything. i have 4 children and i have a binder of medical stuff for each one of them,i have medical expense chart, stomach virus chart, doctor's visits, medical treatmentas well as medical history and family history stuff in there along with there shots does anyone else do this? or am i crazy for doing this.

I learned to get that information from the doctors whenver they go. I never used to get it, figured why would I need it, the doctors have it, Right?!? Well when my kids were about 2, 4 & 5 the doctor I took them too ended up closing and they did whatever with the records so when I transferred the kids to a new office all that information was unavailable...its alot to try to even attempt to find out where the information could have been or the doctor for that matter. All the shot records, etc were not able to be found so the kids had to get shots all over and start from scratch. Its not fun at all! So now everything I take any of them to the doc or hospital I ask for a copy of their charts or paperwork to keep. I have it filed away at home to avoid the same thing happening again.
I would say you are not crazy, who knows what could happen to a medical facility, what if there were a fire or break in, all that may end up missing?

Yes. I have a binder for my children. It was actually given to me by the hospital when both were born so that I could keep up with all of their medical information. As a special education teacher I recommend parents have a binder for each child that they can carry with them so that they can easily access pertinent information for doctors and schools. I actually wrote an article not too long ago on this on here.

Why not just post the site here so that all can benefit? My doctor gives me a full handout printed each visit so I have all of the information already on it. It's a nice feature of the clinic I'm a part of. Namaste-Anora

Yes I have one for my husband, my daughter and myself. I keep it in a notebook in our safe. Our family and friends know about this book so if God forbid, something were to happen to any of us, someone could go get the notebook and inform the doctors of our allergies, past surgical history or any medical conditions we have.
I'm a diabetic, so I wear a medicalert necklace. But that also does not list the fact that I'm terribly allergic to betadine and some other medications. It's in my files at the hospital, but in an emergent situation or if I happen to be out of state or out of town, no one would know. That's why when we travel, a copy of that notebook comes with us.

No, you're not crazy for doing that. Since you have done this, it makes it alot eaiser on you to go back and check when something comes up that you may not be sure of. Not all doctors records are correct, as this nurse may had off your child's chart to another nurse to fill in something and it never gets done, but since you have the record in your book, you can have that looked in to.
I keep my kid's stuff up to date too because you never know when something may come up and you need that, and can't get to it because your in another state or had to go to another doctor. It's a good idea, and keep up to the good work!
